I'm looking to reduce a little high end shrilliness in my Maz 38 2X12 and I'm wondering if swapping out some preamp tubes will help. I'm a Tele player so this is something I'm very familiar with, but here's the amp's particluars:
Weber Blue Dog and Eminence Red Fang speakers, both 30W V1: jj ECC 83s V2: jj ECC 83s V3: NOS Mullard 12AT7 V4: jj ECC 83s V5: EH 12AX7
I bought the amp used, and the only change I made besides the speakers was installing the Mullard. Any help would be appreciated.

Not a total expert but I would guess a change at V4 with a 12AX7WB/7025 and a 12AX7LPS in V5 as that's what I was recommended by a fellow Zboarder for my Maz 18 Verb. Maybe an expert will come in on this.

A 5751 in V1 will smooth out the amp. It won't hurt to try, just listen when you change tubes and see if you are getting what you want. Also remember to keep the cut control down, maybe 9 o'clock. Start with the cut off, then slowly increase untill you get the sparkle you want. The treble also will probably be down at 9-10.

You may want to ask Myles on this as well.He usually has all the right answers on tube swapping.

Hey Garyh, thanks for the link. I put Svetlana 12AX7's in the V1 and V2 positions, and it absolutely did the trick. i actually found myself bringing up the treble ane cut controls. And thanks to the good Doctor for his fine remedy!
