Talk about a lot of BS in advertisting... Anyone have any recommendations for a guitar with a LR Baggs Lyric in it?

I had a Genz Benz Shenandoah for a while and it was pretty good. The Jr doesn't have enough power for most gigs so I wouldn't recommended that one. The Fender amps are terrible IMO. Tried the Fishman and the Acoustic amps and didn't have much luck with either one. I don't know if you are looking for something for live performance but I've has the best luck just running direct to the board through a Radial Pro DI. I think get a better tone, more natural sounding, than I did with the Baggs Para Acoustic DI. My guitar has the I Beam not the Lyric but I'm guessing it would react similarly.

I have a SR engineering acoustic amp. I think it's the jam 150.
Quite powerful and offers lots of tone shaping knobs. 3 or 4 inputs with phantom power if needed. The best acoustic amp I've found yet

I loved the tone of the Ultrasound amps I have used. Actually sounds like a guitar when you play through them.

OK I should have put some use parameters in. This would be for home use only - monitoring while recording or jamming with friends in the living room, and for headphone use when the wife wants to watch TV. Therefore I don't think power is ever going to be an issue - a five or five-hundred watt unit will be equal to me if the price and tone are identical. I want some effects, I would like stereo (but a good enough mono unit can sway me) it has to have headphone and direct outs, a loop would be nice, but the most important is that it doesn't make my Martin sound like a Stella. I have not played through any yet. All of my search has been online so far. I've looked at the Roland unit that is stereo, I see Peavey has one they claim does both acoustic and electric guitar, Line 6 has a unit that includes a jam feature, there are some high-end units from Europe that look pretty good but are expensive, etc. Just thought I'd find out if anyone has actually plugged in to any of this stuff before I start hauling the guitar around to try them out.

I bought an Ultra Sound 30 watt from Amazon…under $200.00. I use it for my nylon acoustics and find the sound reproduction is spot on, very easy to dial in and no unnecessary gimmicks. Since I don't play out much and only for small charity events…old folk's homes and the like, it works for me. Kinda wish I had got the 50 watter just in case .

I think you'd like the ZT Acoustic Lunchbox for the use you describe. Great little box. That's what we took to Iraq w Mary Lee. Mighty effective little set of controls too. Has everything you list except stereo. You can plug a mic in too. Very portable and affordable.

This is just FYI:
I've been playing some acoustic ('81 Ovation Balladeer w/ BarcusBerry pup) in one of those praise bands for about a year, and the evolution has been that we go direct, so if you ever get to a point where you want to do that, I can highly recommend the Tech21 ParaDriver pedal. I mainly play bass in the band and use a Tech21 BassDriver to go direct, which works great, too.
Just saying...

Ah, very nice. It's always good when you ask and you get answers that include gear you had not heard of before. I had not heard of the Ultrasound stuff - looks interesting for sure. I HAD heard of the ZT but have yet to lay eyes on one in person. Going to make a quest this week and keep that one in the sights too.

Steve, the new Ultrasound amps will have the name Dean Markley Ulrasound. They were bought out a couple of years ago. Check out some reviews on line.

I had an Ultrasound for my Martin. It sounded great. I didn't keep it because it didn't have enough oomph for gigging purposes, but worked out nice for just what you describe.ngigging I'm going into the PA or using QSC k-10's.

www.ultrasoundamps.comThese have most everything you mentioned and great tone. Sent from my SM-N900V using proboards +1 for the Ultrasounds amps. Dean Markley now owns the company, but the amps are really exceptional. Especially for the money. I used an ultrasound ag50ds4 for several gigs and it was great. Nice sound, very light and has a notch filter and some basic effects.

We ended up getting two fishmans as well. Only because we can use them as amps in a small setting but still use them as monitors into the pa. Our singer can never hear himself when the speakers are pointed out. And the other guitarist hates how he sounds straight into the pa. Not that we really play out like the real musicians but you know what I mean. If you want a serious deal get the crate 125. It is the absolute ****. Great acoustic sound and a fender strat even sounds good into it for clean.

I haven't seen any SWR gear around here in a long time - wonder what happened? GC doesn't seem to carry it any more. And they are a ZT dealer, but never have the products.
I've seen the Fishman stuff - still window shopping I guess. About time to haul the guitar down and try them. But selection has been pretty sparse around here.

I'll tell ya what... the old Gallien Krueger 206MLE 2x6" stereo acoustic/electric guitar amp with some built in effects was great chock full of ins/outs/effects/phones. These work great and sometimes can be had for about 200 bucks.

Steve, If it's for home use only, the Yamaha THR5A is ideal. I've got one and it really sounds great. I use it at home and have used it on a couple of live radio sessions with excellent results. This demo vid is impressive: And this review: Yamaha THR5A link Hope this helps.

Wow, that Yamaha is a very interesting product! Haven't seen one around here though... but at $200 it seems a pretty good setup.

Finally got to try out a few amps - bleah. I guess I have high expectations, based on the excellent tones I get with my electric rigs. I tried the Fishman, one of the cheapie Acoustic models, a Roland stereo unit, and one made by Godin that was twice as much as the rest, with fewer features. They all sounded pretty bad compared to what I was expecting. Thus, perhaps my expectations need a tweaking...

Well since I didn't want to drive through gridlock into downtown Seattle, I tried a little experiment here at home tonight. I plugged the Martin into a 6 channel Peavey mixer I have here, took the main out on that over to the line input on a Fender Frontman 15 and powered up. With the tone controls more or less flat, I got more or less exactly what I was hearing from several amps yesterday. I think with a parametric eq in the loop I could kill off that annoying G note that wants to take off and have about the sound i'm looking for. Thing is, it is NOT portable, and it is quite messy. I had hoped to plug straight in to a nice portable box. I may have to make that drive after all..

Bring your acoustic to a store with some 8" powered PA cabs like a QSC K8 or similar.
