Hi, Has anyone tried the Tung-Sol 12AX7? I am curious how this tube would compare to a GT 12AX7M. Thanks! Rick

If you have a GT 12AX7R3 compare that .... as it is the same sonically as the Tung Sol reissue. ... a bit thinner and brighter (but not in a bad way ... just different).

Myles, Thanks for the info about the tung-sol. I tried ordering several 12AX7m's from CE Dist. They suggested that the 12AX7M's were on a 6 month back order? Thanks! Rick

Myles, I got my hands on Tung-Sol 12AX7. The GT-12AX7M wins! The TS looks and sounds very similar to a Sovtek 12AX7LPS. Many thanks again! Rick

Rick I have both Tung Sol re-issues and some GT-12ax7ms, and also prefer the GTs. The Tung Sols are cool if you want to brighten up an amp and work well with high gain stuff. Both of my Tung Sols have more gain tha the GT. For cleans and general playing, I prefered the GTs in my Maz Sr. & Ghia, but Myles will disagree with the GT in v1 of a Ghia.

I do not think I disagree with your V1 Ghia choice. My choice was based on emotion more than anything else I believe. A few years back I was given an NOS Telefunken as a gift. I found it too bright in any amp I tried it in. Then I plugged it into the Ghia and with the conjunctive filter (rolled a bit more to the right) the amp sounded great. So ... I left it in there as it was the only amp that I could find that liked the tube!

Hope I didn't offend.

I prefer a brighter tube, but that is just personal preference! Happy playing Oooops! Sorry Myles, I thought I read one of your posts saying you didn't like the 12AX7M in your Ghia. My bad.
