Just wanted to throw this out there if someone was looking to upgrade their sound. I recently bought a NOS Mullard EF86 from KCA on Mike's recommendation. The JJ EF806 that was in there worked fine but I thought it was not doing the amp, RXJR, justice. I did have an old Hammond Mullard in there for a time but that went micro on me in a big way. Anyway, the difference is quite considerable. The amp breaths now in a way that feels completely open. The attack response is ridiculously better making my whole sound a lot more interactive with my guitar and playing style. I run the amp at 9:00 playing off the bridge p/u on my Tele most of the time- power chords and riffs. But the amp cleans up incredibly well in the middle position without any real drop in volume. Definitely a good upgrade for $70.

I did the same thing to my M12. I replaced the EF86 with a NOS Dario I got from Myles awhile back. I also replaced the rectifier with a NOS 5Y3. Sounds much better. As always, YMMV.

Probably warrants a new post, but I just dropped a pair of NOS Sylvania EL84s into RX to replace the Mullards..... no words. Changed the entire dynamic of the amp. Everything rings with rich, dark reverberating layers. They're a more aggressive and loud tube but so warm and alive. Amazing how those old tubes can change the character of an amp.
