I just wanted to say that the RFT 12ax7 is an excellent sounding tube. It has a nice smooth tone & really worked wonders with my SRZ. I'd imagine it to be equally as nice in a Maz Jr or Sr. They are really worth a try. I'm going to try and get some good clips recorded of my SRZ for you to hear.

Sounds really cool Prowler. I love the Brimar CV4004/12AX7 in my 6545. Very agressive yet smooth to my ears. Would like to hear the RFT though too.

trane... I plan on getting to the rehearsal studio at some point this week to record some clips. I'm not really able to record with anything other than the built in mic thats in my laptop though. Hopefully the clips will come out ok. I might be able to get a friend with a portable recording rig to help out.

i have the RFT's in a Maz jr reverb with great results. Warmer! great for taming the harsh tones you can rip from a tele's bridge pickup! I also got a pair of Svet's but i have liked the RFT's so much i have not ever tried the Svets.

Been searching around and finally figured out it's an east german tube. Did you put them in V1 & V2 or did you also get the phase inverter version as well?

Just ordered one for V1 of my SRZ. Should be a giant leap from the Sovtek in it when I bought it. I'll post again once I receive it and get it in the beast! Cheers, Blair

I put an RFT into V2 of another amp that I own & it's equally as nice in that position. Try swapping them around and see what you come up with!

Branded RWN Neuhaus. Put in V1 of the SRZ...loud popping, sound of bacon frying, quickly shut down. Tried again in V1 of 6545...same thing. Oh well, back it goes. (BTW, the new EH 12AX7 received in the same shipment sounds great.) Cheers, Blair

Ouch! Frying bacon. That does not sound good.Must be a defective ? Yup. Contacted the dealer today and they've already shipped a replacement no questions asked. I'll let you know how this next one turns out when I get it! The EH is a keeper. Much improved tone over the Sovtek WB that it replaced. Cheers, Blair

Blair, Where did the popping tube come from ? Hi Myles, I'm almost scared to say...I know you are no fan of this operation...The Tube Store in Hamilton, Ontario. I looked into ordering from Mike at KCA NOS, but two things prevented it for me. (1) As others mentioned, shipping across the border into Canada is a real hassle and adds a lot to the cost of an order, and (2) I saw that Mike has a minimum $100 order, but I only wanted to spend $45 at this time on 2 tubes. I'll keep you posted on how all this turns out, but to be fair to The Tube Store (so far), they responded immediately to my message that I had been sent a bad tube and they sent a replacement same-day with no questions asked. And they apologized twice for my inconvenience for receiving a bad tube. This is my first ever dealing with them, but I think if the replacement tube is good I'd overall call it a good transaction. I'll have to wait a few more days to know... Cheers, Blair

Cheers, Blair Blair, I won't go on and on I will just say that just may indicate if they test at all before they ship or just sit back and wait for their warranty to kick in rather than do the work upfront. If you had gotten this tube overnighted to a hotel for a gig it would have been a bit more trouble and concern.

I just ordered an RFT along with a NOS RCA 5751 from KCA a minute ago. The RFT was based on Mike's recommendation.
