My KT 66's are 9 months old.........my Rt 66 sounds weak as compared with one I heard in a store 2 days ago. Not a lot of "pop" and tightness in the bottom end. I have gigged about 20 times with this amp and played on average 1 hr per day....using an airbrake.......cranked on setting 4.
I guess my question is whether this is enough to wear my Power tubes down? Maybe the bias is off as well..............any thoughts?

Using any attenuator to be able to crank and amp up will wear out tubes much faster. It is not the attenuator ... playing the amp at the same level without the attenuator will have wear be just as fast. This is primarily true of all class A/B grid biased amps such as the Route 66.
You are due to have the output tubes looked at and I would look at the phase inverter while I at it.

Thanks a lot Myles.......Much appreciated info! Do you feel the GT's are the best choice for the $. Shuguangs have been suggested to me as an upgrade.

Not to mention (if you can afford it) to always have a spare set of power tubes around. Not only will you have backups in case one blows up, but you'll also have a set you know is new in case you think the current set is worn out. Put in the spares, see if you can tell the difference.
Also, using an attenuator (as I do too) will change your sound....especially the punchiness/percussivness. The more attenuation, the more it compresses and lacks punch. Did you use an attenuator in the store? If you didn't, that could make a BIG difference!! Mine is a different brand of attenuator, so I don't know what 'setting 4' is.

...........Nah ..........I do all my comparisons without the attenuator. As long as my 66 sounds like all those soundclips......thats how I like it. Definately gonna be replacing the power section.........Good luck with the gig gtrman3.......saw your post in the Rt 66 section. My fav for blues is my 335/Rt 66 comb........killer!

Thanks for the good luck on my gig. I do prefer the Les Paul to the 335 with the 66. My 335 has PAFs in it. And the sound...with this guitar....is kinda different.
NO MIDRANGE! It's all scooped out. Lots of high end and a flabby bass response. It sounds this way with all amps.
The LP has stock 'whatevers' that came with it in 1979. Perhaps 495's? But a tight bottom end and a good midgrange boost (as compared to the 335) and not as much high end. Better balance.
But the 335 will give me Santana-like feedback at just above talking level. That can be REALLY cool sometimes. However, if it's a high volume gig, it will HOWL if you're not carefull.
