Does anyone have any experience with these? They list them at the tubestore.com, but otherwise I cannot find anything further on them. How do they compare to the other NOS EF86's out there? I have a tight budget & these looked affordable ($27.95) and interesting. Thanks for any help!

E-mail Mike at kca tubes, see what he thinks of 'em. I think he may have some as well.

Update: I took a chance & got the RFT and quickly realized just how much of a piece of **** the stock Svetlana is! The KT-45 side of my 6545 completely came to life as if I had removed a wet blanket from it! The RFT is quite a bit brighter with lots of low end, punchy mids & very snappy top end. Sort of really brought out the Hiwatt side. I now understand the huge disparity between ANY NOS EF86's compared to the Svet/Sovtek. The RFT from what I could find, was made in W. Germany. I'm not sure of its age, but they are really a great deal if you can find them. I got mine from the tubestore.com for $27.
I was so impressed with the difference this tube made I had to see how much more of a difference I would find in a NOS Mullard. I was able to snag a pristine mesh type Mullard NOS EF86 from the Blackburn factory on Ebay for $22.50! The mullard is quite a bit different from the RFT. I would have to say it brings out more of the Vox side of the amp. A bit darker sounding than the RFT, but with really lush low end and chimey high's. The mids are much smoother than the RFT.
For now I'm leaving in the Mullard, but the RFT definitely has a nice punchy sound. If you still have the Svet/Svtk EF86 in your Z, you really have to try a NOS! I'm now on the lookout for a GEC, Telefunken & maybe a Genelex Gold Lion...So much for saving money!

The RFT looks like it is an older Tesla or grey plate Telefunken style Ef86. I bet its a gooden. Lots of these tubes got re-labeled. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems the NOS Ef86's fall into two catagories. The grey plate style and mesh plate style. In my experience, they will sound a little different, but equally nice.

Actually ive seen them in the mesh screen, solid plate screen, and i've got some old rogers and RCA made in eroupe that are more like a little cheese grater looking screen? In fact i think the stock Svets are like that? .... i guess that'd be a tiny piece of cheese!
