I recently came across a Stingray for sale on line and it had the description of "lawsuit". I know the amp is now called the Stangray but was there some sort of suit filed that forced a name change? And what had the name to begin with? Just curious.

There was no lawsuit....not even close.
That term is being thrown around the instrument business way too much. ....as if to identify a production model, or a period of time an instrument may have been manufactured. But it can have negative connotations if you are associated with the company. And it 'leads' people to believe there WAS a lawsuit. (letting people's imagination fill in the blanks.)

Very cool, I agree with the term being grossly over used, thanks for clarifying. I was talking with a few guys this morning after rehearsal at church about how everything on line now is either "law suit era" or "super rare" hahaha!!!

There are 50 Stingrays in existence - I heard there were 25 heads and 25 combos. I saw amp #52 and it had Stingray crossed out in pen and Stangray handwritten in. I have Stingray #1 - used to belong to Brad Paisley himself!

Unless dr z asked him to use the stangray name.

Unless dr z asked him to use the stangray name. Not sure why Brad got rid of it. He apparently gave it to his tour manager who then sold it to one of his neighbors. I saw the amp on ebay early one Sunday morning. Originally it was a BIN or best offer. I offered him $200 less than he was asking. Two seconds later someone else offered him something. I said screw it and hit the BIN button before someone else did. The guy later told me that someone offered him another $1,000 over my bid if he would sell it to him rather than complete my transaction. Doc was a bit surprised that it was sold but at least we kept it in the family!

Not sure what # it is though. Thanks!

Not a whole lot more than Stangray since they are identical other than name I sold Stingray for $1,200 after I bought #1. So I figure between $1,200 - $1,300 for head and another hundred or two or so for combo depending on condition
