Funny you should ask...I have had several issues with the electro harms....I did try a set of matched tad str's in the maz to good affect...but I felt they were in my opinion a little to forward in mids,hi's.They are in the blues jr now and sounding like a much bigger amp in tone.
Doc sent me a set of reflectors that are nos/military...put those in my blues jr...wow did that thing get a kick in the drawers...I was about ready to set that thing out on the curb.It really does sound much better.
I really like the electro harmonix tube...its very neutral to my ears and doesn't over emphasize any spectrum. So that's my 2...just sounds right to me in the maz.Highly recommend experimenting and youll be convinced by your own experiances and ears.

So far i havent had issues with the EH's. An amp tech told me that EL84's are EL84's and it doesnt matter what brand they are just that some brands last longer than others. Im no amp tech but I think there can be a difference in tone when replacing power tubes. Some have more headroom etc. Wanted to see if anybody has improved the tone by changing power tubes

Not to put words in Myles' mouth, but I believe he has very recently stated that JJ's are the most preferred current-production EL84 on the market. Doc seems to be using new E-H's right now (I got some in my M12 and my Rx) and I cannot fault them for anything either.
Aside from those two, I'm not seeing any major clamor over any one particular NOS-type EL84 out there right now. Just my observations...
