So my Germino Lead 55 LV was making a funny noise. Found it was only on the input 2 side. Also only was audible above 3:00 on the volume knob for input 2. Input 1 had no issue. Noise sounded like a flag blowing in a heavy wind. Figured it was V1 as half goes to Ch1 and the other to Ch 2. Swapped out V1 and all is well. Just another fun reminder that most tube amp issues are tube related. All the above took about 7 minutes from beginning to end.
Just thought I would share.

damn these rotten tubes today!!!!
Funny, your use of the "flag in the wind" description....
For those of us who own (and constantly work on) old tweed bassman amps, most of us have heard "the wind." It's an odd, rectangular-shaped treble cap on the bright channel (something like 760 pf) that commonly goes south...... You'd think you're at the beach on a particularly windy day!!!

I know which one you are talking about maddog. I love tube amps. Pretty easy to work on. Of course you need to know your own limitations. I personally do not mess with shunting power supplies and stay away from electrolytics. I don't want to get myself zapped. Learning more and more has kept bills down and have even been able to help others with biasing and such. Fun stuff. Good to know my description was a good one to use. I thought it could be a component but tubes are easier to go after first. Oh and the tube is an nos brimar....Switched it for an nos mullard. Tube is probably good still (the brimar) in V2. But going For the mullard and have the brimar in the tube cube for now.
