Hi - have decided I'm going to buy a Monza
I've heard great things about the z best cab, how would it compare to a 4x12 (eg marshall)?
I'm more concerned with the mic'd sound for recording and for what will come through the PA
I love the sound of an old marshall 4x12 cab and the low end chunk it can provide.
Can the Z best deliver this?
Also, I see on the website the cab will respond differently whether it's place upright or sideways. I plan to put the cab in a live-in road case that I can wheel around. If the port is blocked by the case walls, will this eliminate the difference in standing it up or laying it down?
Curious

The Z-best is an incredible cabinet. It's pretty heavy for a 2x12. It's a ported cab, not a sealed closed back like a 4x12. So the low end chunk isn't quite the same. But most people will never notice.
For me, the cabinet actually had TOO much bass. The stock speakers are a V30 and G12H. Both speakers have big 50oz. magnets, and the H is especially known for heavy bass. I replaced them with a pair of greenbacks....speakers with much less bass. Now I like the cabinet.
I don't know about your live in cabinet. I don't know how much it will block the port. The ports on a Z-best are on the long side, not the short side. So if you have it standing up, you should be alright when you take the cover off.
And welcome to the forum!!! Lots of good information and people here. Conversations and disagreements are respectful.

If you entirely block the port the bass response will disappear or radically change.

Would the Monza (20 watt amp) be enough to drive a Marshall 4x12?

Would the Monza (20 watt amp) be enough to drive a Marshall 4x12? absolutely. Even a 3 watt amp will drive a 4x12. It's a matter of how loud you need things.

If you entirely block the port the bass response will disappear or radically change. But when the cab is placed horizontally the port is blocked by the floor, no?

I'm also considering buying 2 Z Bests. 2 of these = 4x12

Once I started using my stock Z Best that was IT for me. Nothing compares IMHO.

I have two Z-Bests and bought a splitter cable from Humbucker so I could run them together with my Ray, EZG and Soldano Hotrod 25 and I love them. As previously posted there is a TON of bass with the stock speakers, but I like more bass than most people. I worked at a store in the late 80's - mid 90's that sold Marshall and I think the Z-Best sounds every bit as good as the modern (1980's and newer) 4x12 Marshalls. Now the 60's cabs with original speakers............
The Z-Best is my fave cab so I am a little biased. The only negative for me, is when standing close to the cabinet I have trouble hearing my guitar. The folks in the back of the room don't, but I put it as far back on stage as I can. I mic the g12h, v-30's have always sounded a little harsh to my ears. I use mine standing tall.
Let us know what you decide and how you like it.

I love mine, especially for outdoor gigs. I've found that using an open back 1-12 cab with the Z-Best makes hearing the guitar on stage a lot better.
