Going with current manufacturing I would go with the JJ/Tesla GZ34/5AR4. Of course the Sovtek 5AR4 is a good tube too but my preference is for the JJs.

Thanks Myles. The JJs are definitely the best of new production 5AR4s, but all of the NOS 5AR4s tend to last 25+ years which makes them a much better deal in the long run. The best deal is the NOS JAN Philips (mislabeled 5V4GA) which is about half the price of a Mullard. Mike K www.kcanostubes.com

Mike - you've made that "mislabeled' 5AR4 recommendation to me in the past, and now (after today) I think almost all my amps have one. Great stuff, and I'm happy to have them!
