Certainly don't want to try and turn the MAZ into something it's not, but I'd like to get some opinions on what speakers you all think would help to get more into the blackface Fender side of the MAZ. Right now the WGS G12C is leading the pack.
I'm playing Outlaw country stuff in the vein of Waylon and Merle, Paycheck, etc.
Also I'm sure tube adjustments could aid in this too. Suggestions?

I've tried a bunch of different speakers with my MAZ, and frankly I think you'll be hard-pressed to find a better choice than the G12C if you're wanting to bring out the blackface tone. I have a G12A in mine, and that's the ticket if you're wanting a bit more chime and alnico compression, but IMO the G12C is an excellent American-sounding speaker.

I don't own a maz, but Id assume something of the Jensen flavor would get you a bit closer. Most Fender's these days run Jensen's or eminence. Not sure on the tubes though.

Thanks for the feedback fellas. Yes, I figured a Jenson-style would be what to shoot for. The G12H in there now sounds great, but definitely more in the Brit camp.

I got the closest with a Weber 12F150, 30 watt, light dope.

Jensen reissue ceramic. Fender used those & Utahs back then.

I use a RedFang, depends on how you set the amp more so than the speaker I would think... You can put celestions in a BF twin and it will still sound like a BF twin. Little different but still a BF twin. I have said this many times, the MAZ will take to to the BF camp but it is not a BF Fender. If you want a BF fender the only way you are going to get it is to get a BF fender. The Maz can take you to fender, marshall, vox, tweed, pretty much anywhere, not exactly but in that area.. that said, depending on if you need a dead on BF there is no Z amp that will give it to you... Some closer than others but as I said, if you want BF , get a BF....

The WGS G12C that you mention would probably work well. I would also suggest the Jensen C12N (or even better, Weber's clone of it, the 12F150). A Tone Tubby will also give the MAZ that "full, fat" California sound, if that's what you're looking for. I love the MAZ with the TT red alnico for a more modern American sound.

the MAZ will take to to the BF camp... This is all I'm trying to achieve. Right here. A speaker that doesn't have the upper mid spike of a Celestion. And I have a blackface Showman. When I got the Z, it's because I wanted a Z. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I like the Alnico Tone Tubby with the Maz Sr...
I feel it's a great speaker with the Maz and a bit more neutral than most...
Being Neautral with the Maz is great as because to ME, the Maz kinda has a bit of ALL the big three tones in it with a DR Z twist.... So with a more neutral speaker you can dial in many tones.
It allows you to pull either a more voxy sound out of it using the CUT... You can pull a bit more marshally tones out of it using more mids... and for a bit more of the fendery stuff you can roll offthe mids a bit and boost the bass some... just remember the tone and cut controls are very interactive and not quite like using fender tone knobs, Z's knobs actually DO something lol...
Also...
I LOVE the 50 watt Weber Alnico Silver bell with the Maz Sr for a bluesy fender tone. It is NOT as neutral as the Tubby but in a really GOOD way. sweet speaker.
and probably the more american style Weber, WGS, or Jenson speakers would obviously work... Might even wanna try a 15' if you go with one of the american style speaks...

I use two C12G's in my Cab with my Maz 38 and it's a great tone for me. For that (close to) Black Tone I have cheated by using a Black '65 Whampler pedal. It's cheaper than spending $$$ on a new speaker.

I would love to hear a Maz with Z 12s in it. I think the roots setting with a 2 x12 of Z-12s would be awesome.

Hmmmm....now I am thinking a mix of Z's 12 and a Celestion...not sure which. Get a mix of American and British. Could be interesting. I may have to try it at some point. I wonder what Celestion would mix well....wow...I think too much. Back to the original topic. Go with Doc's advice.

The Weber 12F150 is supposed to be the DRRI replacement speaker to make it sound more like a real BFDR.I have the Z-12 and the weber 12F150,I have thought about putting them together in a 2X12,and running my therapy through it-I didn't like the weber by itself with the Therapy when I first got the Therapy though.Maybe with EL34's it'll sound better.

I'll be ordering mine next payday!! My 2004 MAZ 38 sounds awful sick. After relapsing a blown transformer and a fresh set of Tubes, the Tone is weak and the sustain is nonexistent. Pretty sure the Celestion Gold is toast. Would love some more Fendery tones out of it,and the Z-12 sounds like the cure!! Thanks!!

Absolutely!! i won't be able to order it until early-mid September due to $$$'s... I DID however buy a Z-Best cab on kigigi this morning, and will run the MAZ through it until then. Then I save up for the Z-Luxe!!!
