2 dampers on each EL84 seem to help the rattle, but it sounds like one of the other tubes may be rattling. My next guess is to put dampers on the preamp tubes and rectifier, then I guess if that doesn't eliminate it then I'll replace the preamp and rectifier tubes. Can anyone recommend a good 5Y3 rectifier?
This rattle sucks and it's bugging the hell out of me. This amp sounds SO SWEET if I could just get it to stop rattling...

The Weber Copper Caps don't rattle. I like the 5Y3. I have one in a Ghia now.

I had a real odd metallic ringing when i was hammering on my RX last nite. Thought a had a pre going micro. Turned out the retainer on a EL84 was hangin off, was vibin against the tube and amplifying the sound? I must have knocked it off, anyways noise went away.
I have a crate vfx5212 that reignited my love for the electric, was playin acooostic for years... Anyway that damn crate devours EL34's like nothing else. They mount to the chassis horizontally. So theyre hangin off the back in the speakers face on their sides. Not hanging or standing. They have a cage that clamps down on them. Well the buggers end up vibing the mica spacers off the plates and rub on the glass. I end up with glass grindings in there! And it sounds so crap when that happens. Im lucky if they last 3 weeks. I put a set of JJ KT77's in there and they were beautiful. Till one dropped a halo!!
Sorry i know thats unrelated to Z, but i know combos are dam hard on tubes, thats why i wont own one, always head and cab. That and a bad back...

I just got a Sovtek 5Y3 in from Torres Engineering and it rattles so much worse than the one that came with the amp! Ugh...
Can anyone recommend a reputable source for 5Y3's? I usually get my tubes from Eurotubes but it doesn't look like he carries these. I'm pretty sure this rectifier tube is the last thing standing between me and Ghiabliss.

See my previous post. Mike at KCA, or Ted Weber for copper caps as bluzman suggested.

Check the handles and the handle covers, take the back panel(s) off. Make sure the chassis screws are tight. Check that all the knobs, and pots and jacks on the chassis are tight. Check the speaker wiring and make sure it's secure. Check the where the wires connect to the speakers as the terminal strip sometimes loosens up on speakers. Check that the speaker is secure.
I think that will cover it short of removing the chassis. If you have to remove the chassis check for a washer, nut or hardware that may have fallen in the chassis. Or if the conjunctive filter ever went, there may be a blob of solder sitting in there too... It was pre-owned. It's not a big deal removing the chassis. Unplug the speaker, take out the tubes, and store them safely, put down a towel or blanket lay it on it's side with the heavy transformer lower and take out the screws and carefully slide it out. Listen as you tip it. Keep your fingers out of there. You could get a serious shock!!

Thanks for the chassis removal tips, I've never had to do that before. I've had the amp tipped over at an angle, back panels removed, with the back side facing up and at me while I play "rattle notes". The rattle (or one of them) definitely seems to be originating from the chassis area. What does the conjunctive filter look like, where is it in the circuit? I don't believe there is anything floating around inside the chassis, because I think that would rattle much more often and not only when I play certain notes.
