Every time I pop this in it always seems to stay for 2-3 weeks. Say what you will about Mayer, but the guy has crazy feel. Steve Jordan and Pino Palladino are THE rythym section. Most notable track for me is Vultures. What do you guys think?

I like most of his stuff. The two newest albums aren't doing much for me. Just a song or two on those. His earlier stuff I can listen through the whole album for like a week or so while I'm driving to and from work.

Sent from my Galaxy S4 using Proboards I hear ya, I lost some interest since the Battle Studies album myself. Ready for an electric heavy album from Mayer again!

It's the only album of his that I have, and I love it—but I'm a little worried about venturing into the others. I do like "Vultures" a lot, and also "Another Kind of Green" and the airy-ness of "Something's Missing."
He's got great tone & chops on that album and, as stated earlier, Palladino & Jordan are super tight. I love how well it's recorded too, there's great pop & presence in all the parts. Kinda of makes me wonder, though, because it's almost too good to be a "live recorded" album. There's probably lots of techno-trickery in there.
But hey, opinions about recording and Mayer aside, if I just shut my eyes & listen.. it's an awesome album.

I'd say give the Battle Studies album a listen. The tone on the "Assassin" solo is killer!

I love Mayer's stuff. I like the Trio stuff as well. I think Continuum is one of my favorite albums of the last 20 years. However, I really like the laid-back vibe on his last 2 albums. It's great 'time and place' music.
My wife and I saw him this past August and it was superb. The upbeat tunes were great live, but the low key stuff was fabulous too. I'm glad he doesn't just let 'er rip all the time. I think he's a great songwriter. I was actually more impressed with his acoustic abilities live....fabulous feel player on both electric and acoustic.

Thanks for the replies fellas. I've seen him live twice and I completely agree with KeithA. He does really have a special feel not everyone has. If you ever have a chance to catch Mayer live and haven't seen him, definitely check it out!

I love that album...Im not a huge fan of most of his studio albums, I don't think they really convey his musical talent. When I saw Mayer live I was blown away.

The trio is recording again.
They will be performing on the Seth Meyers show next week.

I'm a big John Mayer fan. His studio stuff can be hit or miss with me, but his live stuff is wonderful. The trio album is easily one of my all time favorite albums. All three of those dudes are extremely talented. To me, Mayer is one the best players out there today. His stuff just makes me want to play!
