Hey everybody. Has anyone tried a solid state recto in the 66? My amp is an earlier creation. Any differences between the types of plug in rectal fires?
Also, I've heard of the notion of it being fairly easy to convert the KT-45 into a 66. What about a 66 into a 45? I might be interested in a dubious blend of the two, some kind of middle ground... an... OT-55.5
Maybe this blending is heresy, but I'm feeling downright evil lately.
Thanks!

Hey Stephen - have you heard about the 6545? Before you go into conversion mode maybe you want to look into it. It is a two channel amp - one side is KT45; the other side is SRZ65. There is one for sale in the BST right now for a decent price. Sell the 66 and get two amps for a couple hundred more than a single one. Such a deal!!! Welcome to the Forum BTW - great place to hang and meet great people.

I'm less adventurous about all of this. I've bought one Zamp new (28) and three used via BST (Rati v2, KT45, Route 66). I played all of my guitars extensively through them and had all of the amps re-tubed and rebiased as per the Z site suggested tubes and settings.
I feel like there is a great deal of thought that has gone into the conceptualization, design and manufacturing of the Z amps, and tweaking them can be a detriment to their optimization.
The more Zs you own, the more you will buy into this.
Just saying...

I thought I read somewhere in this forum that the Doc does not recommend using the SS rectifiers. Don't remember if it was related to a particular model or across the board. Try doing a search or maybe someone else knows the context. The Z-verb has a SS rectifier stock but that is not an amplifier.

Pretty sure BW has SS in his Studio.

Yeah, but that's FOUR '84's. "I see", said the blind man as he picked up his hammer and saw. SS good in 4-el84s but not w/2-el84s. Thank you!

Thanks for the input guys. The 6545 could be very cool- don't know how I ever missed it! The 66 is my second Z amp, first was a Maz-18, which though cool, didn't do the thick crunch and big amp singing thing like the 66 does. However, I'm not too sacred with this stuff, and figured if it's safe to try a SS rect in the 66, tis worth a shot. The Kt-45 is solid state recto'd and since I came across a post on here about a guy wanted to 66 his 45, I figured I might be able to at least partially 45 my 66. Then again a 66/45 would be real cool. New amp design?

I would think the SS would be safe if you get the amp biased correctly. I would be EXTRA careful to let the amp warm up in standby for longer than with tubes.
