I've had my ppimv monza for over a year now and really love it. But the only problem is using delays and reverbs, I really like to use these effects for clean and lead. The front end of the amp slams really hard as everyone knows, and the level of the effects goes up with the gain. I guess this is one of the reasons everyone refers to this amp as a one trick pony. I contacted Z about an effects loop mod and they said it wouldn't work well with the design of the amp. ****, I really think this amp needs an effects loop, makes the time effects happy. So, what about a 5751 or maybe 2 would this help to keep the time effects more stable? The master volume helps but When you crank the gain in this little demon up the delay level has to be at almost 0 which limits the versatility of the amp, you roll the volume down and the delay isn't there anymore.

I have a dozen pedals on my board but so far, I just love plugging straight into my Monza and basking in the tone. She does take drive pedals very well but I hear you on the Delay volume issue. I keep my delay level set quite low but it does jump up in the mix when the amp is cooking. Not sure if there is a workaround for it.

I do wonder if the answer is to use a boss dd7 pedal for delay. This way you could use the sterio feature. Dry signal into your Monza while the delay bits ran to another cleaner amp out of the dd7??? I will give it a try tomorrow and let you know if it works.
Well it worked and sounded better than I thought. Drawbacks are obvious that you are running two amps. Could just do the same thing with an ABY with delay after and get more versatility. But all in all using a stereo capable delay was nice. Turned off it just ran dry to both amps and on the delay seemed to go to the cleaner set amp. I lost my manual somewhere, so it could have been panning to both amps. But to my ears it sounded way better than say mono in and mono out to both amps. Mono with overdrive still very much had your delay problem of hitting the front of the Monza.
Perhaps not a practical solution for you. I don't know but I had fun trying it out.

Thanks for the response, Thats an interesting idea. I have ordered a nos jan ge 5751 from the 60s. I'm going to pop that baby in and see how it effects the amp in general and if it improves how it handles time based effects. I know that dave baker use a Palmer iso line out between the amp and the speaker of his amps, is this basically an external effects loop? Perhaps this is the solution. I imagine the palmer has a buffered circuit, has anyone used one of these. I know that suhr has a pedal similar to this as well. Will let everyone know how the vintage 5751 changes the amp. As a side note I'm running a jensen p12n at 16ohms in the amp, I know everyone hates these speakers but I have to say that it's starting to sound better as it breaks in. I think this speaker would sound quite nice with a g12h30 for the bottom end.

just popped a nos jan ge 5751 into my monza v1, wow, this is a significant improvement . First experience with nos tubes, this one is from 1966 and it's a gem, the amp just sounds beautiful now, definately a little less gain but the top really sparkles now and the time based pedals seem a little happier. So I'm running the jan ge with the standard 12ax7lps two ehx el84's and the 5ar4. I don't see how this amp could sound better. To anyone thinking about selling their monza, think twice , buy some quality nos tubes for the preamp first, the amp deserves it.

+1 on nos jan 5751 in V1 of the Monza! Opens it up a little bit, plays nicer w/reverb and delays. I have em in V1 and V2. Yum!
