I have been running my treble and mids pretty low for a while now. A few days ago I got thinking that the amp wasn't very loud for a 40watter and was thinking maybe a tube was going south. Then I got to thinking about a setting Mike posted somewhere here a while back cranking the TMB to full. So I tried it again. No tubes are going south! Darn its loud. I messed around with variations of Mikes 10-10-10 setting and have been running it like this for a few days now. It sounds so good with a LP in the middle pup setting and neck. Loud and proud like a super reverb or something...... with that Z'ness to it. I actually bought this amp on a whim when I found out it was going to be discontinued years ago. I think it's the only amp that has survived all my horse trading. This one will never leave me! I'm constantly becoming amazed by all the tones in this box. Such a great amp. Grab your LP, throw it on the middle pups and give it a whirl.

One of the things I noticed when I started running the amp with the tone controls maxed, besides the increase in volume, was that it seemed to work much better with ALL of my different guitars. No matter what pickups they had. Any tweaks in tone could be done with the controls on the guitar.

And your first thought was that I had lost it, Nick I also bought mine when the announcement occurred. So glad I did.

I do like it "browned" out a bit with my old settings. It has a nice spongy feel that way also and a great tone to me. But the guitar controls don't work as well. Volume roll off was OK. Tone roll off, not so much. But with the controls maxed I can play around a lot with the guitar knobbies. Finding all sorts of cool tones set like this.

Not that it's needs to be mentioned, but it gets even better with the volume around noon. Next bit of messing around will be the half power switch and brake lite. See if I can get a bit more dirt out of it without popping an ear drum. It's been set to full power and no attenuation for a long time now. This might open even a few more doors. Why didn't this amp sell? It's so good.

Why didn't this amp sell? It's so good. I don't recall the marketing angle, other than a sense of "MAZ meets Remedy." I wonder if billing it as "blackface and beyond" would have gotten more sales. I suppose that phrase already was associated with the EZG-50. JAZ combo is, for me, a lot more manageable than EZG head + cab. (EZG does sound great, to be sure.)

I don't remember the marketing strategy 100%. But wasn't it listed as " the most feature ladden Z to date" or something similar? I'm in hope that Z releases another R/T amp. That trem is ridiculously addicting.

Link to the original Z add www.drzamps.com/amps/jaz2040/The JAZ has soooooooo become my fave all around amp, and that trem is unreal. I crank the master all the way as well and adjust everything else to taste. Amazing how the half power switch has ZERO effect on tone. Did I mention I LOVE this amp

^^^
Thanks for the ad link.
The ad reads like the effects loop is standard. My JAZ has one, but I thought there have been posts mentioning JAZ without the loop. Idle curiousity sparked.

You guys don't find these setting to be too bright with your Teles?

No. I run my Tele's tone control around the mid point when using the bridge pickup. There is a sweet spot that works with that amp setting. When on the neck pickup I usually have the tone control full clockwise. I might roll it off some for jazzier things. All in all those amp settings really open up a lot of versatility.
