hello, I am delighted with my maz 8 especially for home study and small local, but when I need more powerful applications falls short. A friend has the 18 and think maz is the ideal amp for these cases, but house is too much, even with an attenuator is not performance shows that the maz 8. Having 2 amps too, and thought transform maz 8 in a 18 and use the pentode triode switch to change from 8 to 18. opinais that this modification? It can be done? Would affect the tone of the amp? thanks in advance

No, it can't be done. The main issue would be that the MAZ 8 has a single ended power amp and the MAZ 18 is push-pull. I think your best option, would be to try a Bad Cat Unleash powered attenuator. I haven't played through one but I put together a similar system several years ago. I was playing outdoors and we weren't going to be able to mic the amps. I had a Fender Deluxe Reverb and I knew it wouldn't be able to cut it so here's what I did. I ran the speaker output into a THD attenuator. Then I took the line out of the attenuator into a Crown 400 watt solid state power amp. I used that to power a 2x12 cabinet with EVM 12L speakers. It was all the volume I needed and more while it still retained the sound and character of the Fender combo. The Unleash should should do the same thing for you only in a more compact and manageable package.

Are you versed on using the correct transformer tap? Only one output at a time.

Could you pick up a MAZ-18 and put a Brake Lite in it?

Are you looking to trade the 8 for an 18? I've got a Maz 18 reverb & I've been thinking of going down to the 8.

That would be perfect. the only drawback is that you are in Boston, USA, and I in Spain, Europe. There would be no problem exchanging our amplifiers, you could even remove the speaker to save weight and reduce costs, but then you'd need a transformer to European mainstream and I the same, but in reverse.
