Sound like a good idea? I'm thinking so, and I'm looking to raise the funds over the next few/several months. Got a couple amps and other gear sitting around and I think the Remedy would fill that hole nicely, and maybe even work out great in a 2 amp setup. Looking for some pointers.
Ok, I have my Maz jr NR and I have a 2x10 cab with the Z speakers and I'm looking to add a 1x12, pretty soon. I have a few spare 12"s, WGS Green Beret and Reaper 55 and a couple Blues and I'm thinking of going with the stock Vintage 30, so I can try as many speakers as possible. I know the Reaper(g12h30 clone) sounds great with the Maz, for sure.
I know the 2x10 works great with the Maz and I've read great things about mixing the 2x10 with a 1x12. Would this be a case where the identical speaker setup works with the Remedy, as well or would I be better served to get the Remedy it's own speaker setup? I've read the Remedy loves 12s, but not near as much input on the Remedy and 10s.
These are my main questions, or I guess just one question, but any other input is greatly welcomed.

Get a master volume model Remedy if possible. For speakers, a Celestion Creamback is what you need in that 1x12.

Maz18 and Remedy is a much loved pairing for a 2 amp setup by several Z folks, so you're pushing an open door there! As has been said, a Creamback is the speaker favoured by many, or a G12 65 which is very similar, and a bit cheaper. Steve (benttop) may well chip in as he gigged the Maz18 / Remedy line up for quite a while, IIRC

With two amps you can run several different ways. I chose to connect all of my speakers to a Radial Headbone so that I could run the entire set of speakers on either amp, by pushing a footswitch.
The other way I've done it is using an A/B/Y to switch between two separate amps. The consideration there is if you're micing the amp, you need two mics (and two channels on the board). Our sound guy was always groaning about that (what else should one do with those empty channels at the end?).
In both cases Radial Engineering makes a great solution.

dewiecox, can I assume you're a "Justified" fan with that name?...oh wait...that's Dewey Crowe...never mind. As for using 10's or 12's with the Remedy, I don't think one is necessarily better than the other, just different. I use my Rem with my convertible 1X12 Z cab sometimes (WGS ET-65), other times with my Avatar 2X10 (Celestion Gold/Vintage 10). Both sound great...the 1X12 is warmer and a bit "rounder", the 2X10 is tighter in the low end and more spacious sounding...which one I take just depends on the gig/venue. I've also placed my Remedy head on top of the MAZ (WGS G12A)or Galaxie combo(2X10 Z's)and used those speakers to experiment with tones. It's all good!

Definitely be going for the updated model. Ill scan for some deals, but I plan on buying new as of now. Not much of a price break on a lot of them that I've seen for sale.
So Creamback huh? Cool. Sound like they'd be nice? Is that an option with the Z convertible? If not, anybody tried any of the Warehouse or Weber versions or is the Creamback just IT?
benttop: sounds like some cool options. I'll keep that in mind about the Radial stuff. I didn't know anybody made a box to switch amp heads like that Headbone. I considered doing some full stereo action, too.
wubberdubber: actually not into Justified, just a cheesy, yet hilarious John C Reilly spoof on rockstar cliches....just noticed you use a WGS...am I mistaken or is that pretty similar to the Creamback? They make some quality speakers.
Another question I had was regarding the master volume on the Remedy. My understanding is that the Remedy's MV basically just raises and lowers the overall volume, whereas the way the Maz MV can really add quite a bit tonally. I'm sure there is more to it, but am I right in that line of thinking?

You are correct with what you are thinking. The Remedy's MV is after the phase inverter so you can get some real tube dirt at a reasonable volume level. Of course the Remedy sounds best cranked but you can tame it a bit with the master volume. Also remember the Remedy also comes with an EQ bypass (so does the newer MAZ 8/18/38) which let you get another gain stage.
The MAZ will need to be cranked to get to the sweet spot. Using the volume up/Master volume down won't get you the type of dirt you want.
Both are great amps. You won't be dissapointed.

I'll play devil's advocate:
Why do you need a dual amp setup? If you want to have a Remedy and Maz....and select one depending on the gig....I can understand that. But I've never been one to understand a dual amp setup. (OK, if you're Joe Perry...with Joe Perry's money and road crew. He doesn't switch pedals...he switches amps.)
I know forum member Steve (Benttop) used a dual amp setup for a while. And that's fine for him...if he wants to haul it and set it up...etc. But I don't think anyone is going to notice the difference. In this day in age of pedals, I would think you would find a few that give all the sound variations you need. (a lot smaller and cheaper than another amp.)
It's also just more things to go wrong, more things to mic, more things to haul.
Of course, I'm at a stage in life where I want just a few good sounds, and small, light, reliable...etc. If I'm making more than one trip the car, there better be a reason. My 1x10 Ghia gets 90% of the work these days. I have my Remedy as my 'big rig'.
I played a gig Thursday night until 12:30...ugh..have to work the next day. I was loading the car in 3 minutes. I like that!

They make some quality speakers. Oh yeah, forgot about the J.C. Reilly movie. There's a character on Justified named Dewey Cox... Anyway, I have a couple of WGS speakers, an ET-65 and the alnico G12A. I have no experience with a Creamback, so not sure about that comparison. I'm a fan of WGS in general though, and they make a good variety, so there's probably something comparable there.

I just dig the sound of the Remedy and think it would be a cool complement to the Maz and I'm in a situation where I can sell off some unused gear and maybe kick in some tax return money and snag one. If I can add a great amp and cover my tail in the case of a breakdown or blown tube then I call that a big win.
Not sure I'll use a 2 amp setup all that often, but I'll definitely give it a whirl. Mostly plan on using it in a "plug into whatever I'm feeling that day" situation.
I'll actually be condensing my gear considerably if things go as planned.
I'm gonna do my research, probably to the point of overkill, and make sure it's what I really want before I pull the trigger.

OK, here's mine again (about the 5000th time): You can see the Airbrake on top there, and the Radial Headbone next to it. I had a remote footswitch out on my pedalboard so I could switch amps without turning around. I used one of those Boss latching footswitches so there was an LED on for the Remedy, and no LED for the Maz Jr. Both 1x12's have Alnico Golds in them, and I had both connected to the active amp, switching that with the Headbone. It was one rocking setup! I still have it!

Get a nice little Fender clean amp and use pedals for everything? I think most of us up here are "weekend warriors" and certainly can't justify what we spend/carry/setup/enjoy in terms of our gigs - we do it because we love it I have tried the two amp rig btw, and like you, it's not for me either, but each to his own

Just my 2 cents on running a dual amp setup as I often run my Maz with a Marshall 1974x via an AB/Y . Running one amp relatively clean ,or just on the edge, and the other on full on drive gives lots of options but running them together gives a really full drive sound and running just one side with delay or reverb also gives a very spacious sound. Lots of recordings are also double tracked clean and dirty together fur a fuller sound. Yes I know its the domain of big pro stage rigs and a pain to set up and transport but IMHO worth it if thats the sound/tone that you want to put across. Apart from that the only thing better than running one Z full on must be running two Z,s full on together.

At the jam, there were several folks who had brought their favorite pedals, and there was much talk about them. The thing I noticed while I was photographing the stage was that I could hear the guitar fine, until the player stepped on the pedal. Then the guitar disappeared out front. You could see he was digging it by the expression and the fury of his string pounding. But you sure couldn't hear it out front. After the lead part, they stepped on the pedal again and the guitar popped right back into the mix. You don't get that with a dual head setup. You are straight into the amp that is selected, and there are no transistors, FETs, ICs or other shiznit between you and your Z amp. And you never disappear. Best thing about it though - if one of your amps goes down, you're not high and dry.

Ordered a Red Remedy from Humbucker a few days ago and it showed up today. Had a few short chances to play around with it through a WGS Green Beret and a Reaper 55. Sounds great and love the response and feel. Blasting Zep and Crowes riffs, that tone is just right there. Hard to put the guitar down, but the wife was getting a little cranky. Can't wait to give the run through with all the axes.
I started by using my eyes to set it and the low end was flubbing out quite a bit, but after dialing it back it was smooth sailing. I plan on grabbing a Z 1x12 with Creamback, but wanted to make sure the Remedy was as good as advertised, first. Will the Creamback hold the low end better than a Greenback, or is there another speaker that is similar but can hold up to a little more low end power pumping through it.
Another thing I was wondering about...I noticed it gets a little warmer, temp wise, than my Maz and other tube amps I've had. Is this just a a result of running more tubes and pushing them harder than I'm used to? Don't remember my other rigs putting off so much heat, but I've never cranked through 4 power tubes either.

Congrats on the Remedy and yes the creamback will hold a little bit more low end then a greenback. I tried sevral speakers with the remedy, The Z best with stock speakers the Z-best with two greenbacks The Z 4-10 which was super loud and punchy. Still, out of them all the creamback was my favorite then I would say the Celestion Gold. The Z-Best with two greenbacks and a les paul was also very good. Total 70's rock Zep, Bad Company, ect.. Im a single coils guy so The creamback in a 1/12 cab was actually better for me.

John makes very good sense...BUT, at my stage of life, if I'm up past 11 0'clock at night, whether I'm playing a gig, playing with a gal pal, or just watching the news, and I have to work in the moring....uuugggghhh!!!
Point being, if ur willing to gig on ur worknights.....whether its 3 mins load out, or 30 min load out...once it gets past a certain hour.....it dont make much differnce

Congrats on a great amp!
Yes it gets warm! 4 power tubes on whether you're in 20W or 40W mode, and they run at higher voltage in the Remedy, so more heat. It surprised me the first few times I played mine, but it's normal, and so long as you let it cool down before manhandling at the end of the night, no harm will come to the tubes.

I used to have a remedy... I miss it. Anyway, I used a dr. Z 2x10 cab with it, and I may be in the minority here, but I liked it much better than a 112 with a celestion gold, 2 greenbacks in a 212, and dare I say even the zbest... I thought it held the bass together better than anything else I tried, and it was tight and awesome:) give it a try if you can.. I now have an Antidote, and use it with a Creamback, and love it. At loud volumes with humbuckers, it can get a little loose, but it sounds fantastic.
