After salivating due to the forthcoming Z-Wreck 1x12 combo, I was curious how the Remedy might fit in a combo with the same exterior dimensions as the current Dr. Z 1x12 cab. Spoiler alert: it does! I tackled it like any architect/engineer/craftsman would during the holiday break from work... click this image to launch an animation of the 3D model:
static frames from the animation above: I laid it out with 1/2 ply (Italian Poplar of course!), but 5/8 would work too. The baffle is also 1/2" ply and floats independently from the cab. It's bolted to a 1/4" ply flange. The dimensions of the rear 1/2" ply panels are a guess. The top one's dimensions are driven by the Remedy's chassis but the lower one can change for acoustic purposes. In addition to the open back and top vent, there are also 3 2.5" dia. holes in the speaker baffle. I like how the speaker grill conceals them. I show a Greenback here, but I also modeled a Gold to make sure the Alnico bell fit. Thoughts? Have a great holiday too by the way! Ted

I haven't been able to stop thinking about doing this to the remedy since the Z-wreck combo. Will have the $ in a couple of months for materials. Was going to make a 1X12 cab for which I have a creamback on the way already. Think I might give this a try instead.

The back of the cab that holds the chassis should probably be rabbeted in as it's going to hold about 30 lbs iron, aluminum, copper and glass.
The first thing I thought about when I saw the ZW combo was getting one and swapping out chassis every now and then.
Nice work!

Amazing how we work our own skills into our hobbies..... This is waaaay cool the way you worked Doc's babies into our dreams.
The only personal analogy I can relate is after I exited the last Paul McCartney concert, I looked at my wife and said, "Yeah, but lets see him spay a cat!"...... the wife gave me "THAT" look, of course, and I readily crawled back into my personal zone of inadequacy .....

Hey, thanks guys and I hope your holidays have been great. Thoughts on who to call for a custom job? Mather comes to find. I'm also digging a Stagecraft cab; not sure if they do custom though. Z: who's making the ZW combo cabs if you don't mind sharing? Do you guys do them in house? Also, any insight you could share on tuning the rear opening would be great. I could just mimic how you do your current 1x12 cabs too

Here's my Remedy combo, disguised as a giant sized head. It was not your typical grab and go! (I believe this was a MAZ combo cab.)

It was an awesome rig! Too bad you can't get an upside down faceplate.
I have a 1x12 MAZ combo cab that just might be begging for my Remedy chassis . . . and I have the rest of the year off to experiment. It'll tip the scales around 58 lbs, though. Kind of a back breaker when your amp weighs darn near as much as your age!

Our cabs have been built my SSI Manufacturing for the past 20 years. No we don't have a woodshop in house. I tune the open back cabs by ear. Try different size panels and go with best sounding one, each chassis has different mass, each amp design has different tuned freq., and each speaker has it's own set of parameters. Put them all together and empirically test.

..... and we're back to why I take what you give me Doc and don't mess with it. I KNOW when I'm out of my depth!! Good luck with that project Ted - looking forward to seeing / hearing the results!
