My Galaxie head hisses, both channels, when turned up to halfway or beyond. Bass, treble, and presence controls have no effect on this whatsoever. It's not noticeable when I'm playing, only when I turn the guitar volume off. it's very unpleasant, kind of reminds me of the kid in the music store playing metallica songs. Does anyone else have this problem? I tried the tapping on the v1 tube to no avail. Also, does anyone have the problem of this amp not being loud enough? Is the hissing common with this amp?

Hi, A little hiss/background noise can be heard on CH 2 with the amp dimed but otherwise Galaxie's are quiet at idle. My idea of quiet may be different than others. Some folks are more discerning than others. I've never had an issue with the Galaxie not being loud enough and I've played some gigs, what I thought, were at ridiculously loud volumes. By what you describe I'm thinking there's a good chance it's a tube problem. It could be the rectifier tube or a single output tube. Usually rectifier tubes either work or they don't but it's something to check. Have you re-seated all of the tubes, pull them out and put them back in?

Only noise or hiss should indicate too much fluorescent lighting or bad wall plug .... imho

I'd guess it may be a tube issue. Mine seems dead quite to me.
Though I never run mine that loud. Seems like 10:00 is blasting loud on my amp.
