I got caught up in the whirlwind of searching for a 2 channel amp with lots of gain. BAD MOVE. Now, I have to find me another M12!!! lol

since the M12 is such an amazing pedal platform, i like to think of my rig as a 4 channel rig - from clean to fuzz, each channel available at the stomp of a pedal...

I did the same thing. Sold my M12, bought a Bad Cat Hot Cat 30R, because I wanted to have a "pure" signal path. I figured since most of the great, iconic guitar tones came without OD or distortion pedals, maybe I should go the same route.
What I didn't take into account was that most of those tones were achieved by playing 50 or 100-watt amps at ear-bleeding levels, or using multiple mics and multiple layers in the studio. I've finally gotten comfortable with the fact that it's OK to play a small 12-watt amp with pedals.
I think the pedal platform is much more liberating as well. Instead of being tied down to one or two dirty sounds from your amp, you can have as many tones as you can have pedals. Ironically, I got better tones on the Hot Cat clean channel with pedals than I did on the dirty channel.
I'm still interested in listening to some dirty amps (like Carol Ann, for instance), but I'm pretty sure I'm set for a while with the clean channel/pedal combination.
