I know several of you have had or still have both so, what if any are the tone difference between the Celestion Gold and the Blue? I want to add an alnico speaker to my Ghia combo, and I will play it on 11 so the blue might not be the first choice. Also what wattage Weber sounds closest to the gold? Thanks guys,

I don't have any Webers right now, but I do have a Blue and a few Golds. To me, they sound identical. That's a compliment to Celestion for reproducing the sound of the Blue in a higher wattage speaker. I love these speakers!

Thats good to know, I like the speaker to retain tighter low end at higher volumes so the GOLD might be the choice for me. I want to try one in my Ghia 1x12 combo. Any thoughts on the amount of bass a Gold has compared to a Vintage 30?

I have the Celestion Blues and I have the Weber Blue Dog and Silver Bell AlNiCo both 50W. The Webers are definitely not as bright as the Celestion Blue. I have a 30 Watt Weber Silver on order and was told that it would be brighter than the 50 Watt and close to the Celestion Blue. I was told that the 50 Watt Weber Blue is very close to the Celestion Gold.
The Weber Blue and Silver AlNiCo are great speakers and about a hundred bucks less expensive than the Celestion Gold and Blue.

Both C-Blue and C-Gold sounds the same to my ears,Gold are made to handle a higher wattage than C-Blue can.

I have both, the gold and blue. To my ear the gold has a lot more bass, a little fatter mids, and more headroom. I can hear a big difference when I try them out with my Maz 18. The blue is chimier and voxier, and the gold still has that but is much fatter.

I don't have the link to the actual thread, but I pulled this from a thread here...
"I have the Celestion Blues and I have the Weber Blue Dog and Silver Bell AlNiCo both 50W. The Webers are definitely not as bright as the Celestion Blue. From all the reviews I've read of the Gold, and from the above quote & pricepoint, I think I'm going to get a Weber Blue 50W for my RxJR.

I have both the Gold and Blue, and to me they sound very close. I agree that the Gold is slightly fatter sounding, but it's not a huge difference to my ears. If you love the sound of the Blue, but want more headroom or would like to use higher watt amps, the Gold can't be beat.

I have two Weber 50W ceramic Blue Dogs, two Celestion Alnico Golds, and two Celestion Alnico Blues. The problem I have with comparing them is that they are all in different designed cabs, so some of the differences I'm hearing can be attributed to that. The Alnico Blues are in my Dr. Z 2x12 open back cab. The Alnico Golds are in my THD 2x12 ported cab. One of the Ceramic Blue Dogs is in my Mesa Open back 1x12 cab. What I hear: The Golds sound very much like the Alnico Blues, but have more authority on the bottom (some of that could be from the ported THD cab), they are very, VERY close to the Blues from the lower mid to upper mid range, and ever so slightly less sizzle on the top end. If you've tried an Alnico Blue and thought it too bright, you should try the Alnico Gold. The Weber ceramic Blue Dog is a completely different speaker in my view. I wouldn't think that should be a surprise since it's ceramic. The biggest difference with this speaker is that it is very warm on the top - not at all bright. In fact, I almost sold these because they were so "dull" sounding with my old Mazerati. But with a brighter amp, such as my SRZ or my RXES, this speaker sounds very good - lots of bottom end authority, very smooth through the mids, and rolled off nicely on top. For those two amps, this works very well. I do like the Golds with my RXES, but I have to compensate for the top end using the treble control. It can be very bright with the Golds. In fact I've toyed with the idea of putting one of the Blue Dogs in the THD cab with one of the Golds so I can get the advantage of that top end roll-off. That would free up one of my Golds for a combo in my future...
