Have a 66 on the way; my first experience with a non 12AX7/EL84 amp in many years. I usually place my head on the floor so it doesn't get cab vibrations, and I understand that 86s can be/get very microphonic. I'm also no bias whiz, and so if there's a favorite KT66 rating anyone has I'd love to hear it. I'm thinking I might just get one of Bob's retube sets from Eurotubes (I LIKE the JJs), but I'd like to get a good current production or durable, low microphonic NOS 86 for a backup. Suggestions?

Can't speak to current EF86s as I just scour fleaBay for my fave NOS. Plus, silicone rings may be a good insurance policy.
I've only used current KT66s and have enjoyed Gold Lions in both my old Route 66 and current Antidote.

Are the KTs rated at all or do you rebias yourself when replacing?

I always just rebiased myself.
You can also buy a matched quad and only check your bias every other output tube change.

Gold Lions were my favorite modern KT66. The setting depends on the rectifier you are using. As far as ef86s I recommend NOS. I would place the head right on my 1x12. Never had any problems with microphonics. KT 66s are said to be fragile as well. I never had any problems with them.

gold Lions have been very reliable for My KT 66 amp, There are others that are out there that I have heard good things about however NOS on the EF86 TESLA, Dario, almost anything from Germany Amperex, Phillips have been good For me In my Ray, My Badcat currently has a Valvo in it, They are pricey but worth it, You should check the bias everytime you retube the 66. I think its range is 28-32ma If your not familiar with the setting of the bias get a couple Bias rite checkers I heard they work GREAT!!!!

I would run my Route 66 up around 36mA. Depends completely on the plate voltage. Depends on where it sounds good too. But yeah.
