I really wasn't looking to buy an amp right after the drummer quit my band and left things up in the air, but I've been wanting a Route 66 for a while now and a guy a few hours away from me had one for too low a price to let go. It's a 1997 so I'm assuming that's what folks here refer to as an interstate. I'm going to be meeting this guy half way between us on Friday so hopefully by this time Friday I'll have a happy tale to tell. Here's a pic:

Sweeeeet!
The '66 remains well placed at the top of my 'list' at this point in life ..... looks like you gonna have some fun.
Last "flirt" I had with Rt 66 included a Gibson SG. Loved - let me say that again, LOVED - how it played with both the Z 112 and 210 cabs connected.
Definitely looking forward to your future updates.
bestest regards and cheers always,
Joel

Joel I just happen to have a Gibson SG, albeit an extremely cheap one. Looking forward to seeing what they sound like together even if I can't hear them through one let alone two Z cabs, although I imagine it would be glorious.

I only have 3 minutes before I have to pick my kids up from school, but I got the amp today and about all I can say is WOW! I only had about 15 minutes to try out the Route, but it is everything I was hoping for and more. It is far more beautiful in person than the picture indicated and the seller also included a second set of gold lion tubes and an unused set of Shuguang Treasure KT66-Z tubes that he said he was too nervous to gig with (at over $200/pair!), but sound great and can be swapped in without adjusting the bias. I believe there's also a spare GZ34 in there too. Fantastic deal on a fantastic amp. I can't wait to try it out with a band! Now off to get my kiddies.

So ... you like? Do share a lil' bit ..... please cheers always, Joel Well . . . . I've only had minutes on it still (darn kids - one beside me as I type this repeatedly saying 'tickle me, Daddy' , but here's what I've found in less than one hour of playing: 1. I don't know if anyone else would say this and it could be due to my 'aged' hearing, but it seems like a big, fat Ghia in a way. I don't really see it as a dark amp like some have said about the interstate models in particular. To me, it's just about as bright as my Ghia, but with a HUGE foundation. It really seems like the perfect alternative for bigger gigs. 2. This amp has, somewhat unfortunately, convinced me that I really need to get a different speaker cabinet. The Orange 1-12 with a V30 I've been using was a little harsh and not as loud as I'd hoped with the Ghia and now it's harsh, but definitely loud enough with the '66. I can just sense that there's a lot of meat in that amp that's not 'making it to market' so to speak. I could be quite happy sticking with what I have, but it seems like I'm missing a lot because of the cabinet. Now I need to decide what to get and, given the amount of stuff I've accumulated, what to get rid of. Something in my gut tells me that a Z 2-10 would be fantastic with both of my Z's, but given that I'm really lazy and like to minimize carrying stuff I'm leaning towards a Z 1-12. As for speakers in the case of a 1-12, I'm not really sure what would sound best with both the Ghia and the '66. 3. This thing is GLORIOUS when cranked. I only did that for about 5 minutes when nobody else was home and my ears were ringing for a bit afterwards, but what an AMAZING tone. I can only hope that I have the chance someday to play on a stage large enough that I can goose this amp through a bigger cabinet at least once. The Route definitely makes me want to PLAY! Time to start a new band! 4. I thought that the green jewel lamp on the Ghia was one of the best looking tone beacons possible, but the purple lamp on the '66 is pure magic! I think that's enough babbling for a Saturday morning.

From what the Z site says, the size of the Z 1x12 and 2x10 cabs is identical, and assuming the stock speakers in each, the 1x12 weighs 38 pounds, while the 2x10 weighs 41 pounds - not a lot of difference. I use a Gator 1x12 amp wheeled transporter with my 28 combo, and the 1x12 and 2x10 Z cabs will fit into it, plus you can use the transporter as a stand.

Okay, this probably is the last post to this thread for the foreseeable future. If I continue to keep adding to it every time I try something different it could get ridiculous. That said, I just tried out my other guitars and, just like Mr. Fuller said, "they ALL sounded great, no, spectacular!" First was my HSS strat - the bridge sounded better than I could've imagined and all 5 positions were fantastic. My tele sounded absolutely HUGE - I was really shocked at how big it sounded on the bridge pickup while still having a nice bit of twang on the top. I'm in love!
Cheers,
Eric
p.s. with the bass and treble dimed and the volume at 9:00 it was loud and dirty and magnificent! Far more dirt than I would've imagined possible without going deaf (although my ears were ringing just a little afterwards . . . .)

The Route 66 and the V30 don't match well. A G12H30 works much better with the Route 66. I also used an Eminence Private Jack which was glorious and loud. A G12H30, whether Heritage or Classic, really works well with the Route 66. I also used a G12-65 which didn't do a lot for me personally.
A side note: the V30 would probably work well if couple with a G12H in a 2x12. I think Dr. Z has said that his favorite speaker config. with the Route 66 is a 4x10.

Love my 66 with the Z-best cabinet, but as many have said it can be a bit to manage. That's my outdoor gig rig. I also play it through a 1-12 Peavey convertible (same dimensions as a Z z112), loaded with a emminence cannabis Rex. Very satisfied. I do have my sights on a 2x10 Z convertible because 2x10's sound so wonderful in my Maz 18 combo. I think the answer is both a 112 and 2x10 z convertible. Mix and match, or run both together for the larger events.
