Hi everyone, this is my first post after searching around and learning alot here the last few weeks. I have a Monza head with a 1x10 cab with the red fang speaker. After using it for a few weeks at all different volume and drive settings I wish that it would sound quite a bit warmer. I have a 59 reissue Les Paul going straight in without any effects. I'm keeping the tone knob at about 8:00 oclock while using the bridge pickup on my guitar with guitar volume up full and the tone knob backed down to about 7. It still seems somewhat bright. I'm thinking about ordering a 1x12 cab with either a vintage 30 or a greenback. Do you think that this might be the answer? And if so which speaker would you recommend? Maybe i just have an exceptionally bright guitar. I'm an intermediate guitar player and feel i'm never good at dialing amps in. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

I forgot to mention that another option is the celestion G12H-30

The Red Fang is a very mid rangey and loud speaker. A 10" celestion might tone that down. A 12 cab will certainly add some girth and warmness. The G12H30 is a good match for the Monza, so is the 12 greenback ( and it's considerably quieter than the G12H30)....

A couple months back I was going through the 10''/12"decision. I went for the combo with the stock G12H-30. Been happy ever since. Thats what I was afraid of going with the 10" and even though there is a lot of real good feedback on the Red Fang, my gut said do the 12" and glad I did. My opinion and its only my opinion, you'll be just fine with the G12H-30. I'm using a '94 Les Paul Classic and an 80's Les Paul Custom mostly and loving this amp. The Strat and Tele do nice too. You can always add the 10" cab too when you want along with the 12". I've added a 2x12 vintage 30 cab for outside gigs when you need that little extra fullness but mostly the single 12" covers a lot. This Monza is a killer little amp. Hope all works out for you.

Thanks guys for the advice. I'm going to give the g12h30 a try. I will let you know the results when I get it. Also, Billyzbee, I remember reading your thread a little while back, and that helped me to go with the Monza. I think it is a great amp and I think going with a 12 is going to be the answer.

I initially started out with a Greenback (Scumback M75) in an effort to tame the volume some. It was warm and reedy but not as solid in the low end as I wanted. I replaced the Greenback with a G12H30 (Scumback H75) and couldn't be happier.
