Both look awesome, and I like the current generation of Catalinbread stuff a lot. But which one?

Hmm - trick question Since they each are a recreation of a classic echo unit, it's a little like asking if a DLS or RAH or WIIO etc is best - depends on what you want to hear. That said, I'd go for the Echorec! (I have a Montavillian echo now, which, as far as I know, is just a really nice delay that isn't supposed to sound like anything else in particular...)

I don't have either but I would say if you have basic delays covered, i.e. you have a general purpose delay or two like a Boss DD-5, TC Electronic Flashback, etc. than maybe the Echorec would be more useful. It does something unique and it's next on my list because of the "multi-head" stutter/rhythmic echoes.
My Eventide Timefactor has a multi-tap effect, but it really doesn't seem to get anywhere close to what the Echorec can do. The Tape Delay on the TF is pretty decent though and makes it easy to skip the Belle Epoch. YMMV.
Cheers!
