I just picked up, what I feel like is a good deal, on some 5U4 rectifiers on Ebay. I believe it was from a fairly respected dealer too, I believe I've heard the name mentioned on here. Brent Jesse (audiotubes.com)? Anyway, I picked up a lot of 5 NOS or ANOS 5U4GB's for $6.50. It a Westinghouse, GE, CBS and a Raytheon. My Z28 is currently running with the standard 5AR4, but I thought at that price it doesn't hurt to pick it up. I believe I could try one out with my '28 with a re-bias to see what type of difference it makes. Also, I would have them if I get another amp in the future that uses a 5U4.

I'm not familiar with that dealer. The price is definitely right if they are old stock and work at all.

So, I knew I wasn't going to spend a ton on them because I don't have a definite 5U4 rectifier amp. I like my Z28 like it is right now with the 5AR4 although I might eventually try one of the 5U4's in it to see how different it sounds. I was just buying them on a what-if. But yeah, I figured I couldn't beat the price and if they are NOS or ANOS and work fine then it should be a lifetime supply of 5U4's when I need them. I was actually surprised I got them for as cheap as I did.

Brent is a good dealer and backs all his tubes. He also uses a curve tracer. I bought some anos tung-sol brown base 5881 tubes for 50 bucks a pair. I'm going to get some more for my 58 Pro. He has a large supply and aren't quite as expensive as some of the other. I've bought nos and anos from him and all were very strong. He also has some OEM RCA black plate grey glass 6v6's for 50 bucks a pair. They are usually within 3% matched.

I was impressed with his packaging as well. He will probably be one of the dealers in my round of dealers that I check with.
