I really like the tone of my SRZ-65, but I sure could go for a 20 - 30 watt version - something with an output in the range of a Germino Masonette or 3rd Power Dream Solo 4. I imagine throwing in a pair of 6V6's is out of the question, but I wonder how difficult it would be to make a low power SRZ?

A low powered SRZ kinda defeats the purpose of the amp. Seriously though, using a less efficient speaker and an Airbrake can get you most of the way there.

Good suggestions . . . except for calling the Doc old! I've got an Air Brake. I suppose I should try using it! I'm currently running the head through a 1x12 with a 16 ohm G12T-75 (97dB). Without the Air Brake, I've got the Volume and Master between 9:00 - 10:00. Sure sounds good. I was just wondering if a lower watt version might spark some interest from the Z crowd.

I have to CHIME IN!!!!! The SRZ 25 Would BE AWESOME!!!! The 65 sounds KIller at all volumes but around 2:00 oclock on the Vol and Noonish to 2:00 on the GAIN IS GLORIOUS but TOO LOUD for most gigging situations!!!!I think it could be done with two 34's or 66's I have a dual KT66 amp that is 30 watts, How that's Done??? I have no IDEA? I would love to see this!!! What do we have to do to start a Petition> ) I'll be the first buyer, If any of you may know , The SRZ IS MY #1!!!!

I'm with you, Jamie. Put me on the list for an SRZ-25!
I'm taking my SRZ to a gig today (with my Air Brake), but a 20-30 watt version would definitely be my #1 for pretty much everywhere we play. If I buy something like that, I want it to be a Z!

I don't have much experience with the SRZ, but I thought that a lot of people loved its master volume? With that plus an Air Brake, wouldn't that be enough? I mean, 65W is loud.. but so is 25W. I would think that an attenuator could take care of that difference..?

^^^ True. But it's more fun to buy a new amp than attenuate an existing amp. I know there's empirical scientific evidence out there. There must be. I'm certain keeping the MV low and using an Air Brake would work (I did that this morning), but I'd really like an alternative to the Masonette or Dream Solo series with a great big Z on it!

Thought I'd add a little to this thread. I took the SRZ to rehearsal last night. MV just past noon, Gain at 10:00, and I set the Air Brake on the Bedroom setting. Plenty loud enough, and killer tone. I can just imagine how HUGE this amp would sound with a quad of 12's and no attenuation. Still, a relatively low watt version would be ideal for a lot of the places we play. I think this type amp sings with the master up and the power tubes cooking!
