Remedy?

Hey Guys, I've been lurking for a while. And I've come down to the age old question Maz 18 or Remedy.
Just a little background. I do not have access to try these amps. The closest dealer doesn't have either in stock. I currently have a mesa 5:50 and this thing is cool at bedroom levels but when I go to gig with it the tone is thin and compressed and a little muddy. In my band I mainly play rock from classic rock to modern rock, but we'll throw in some modern alternative neon trees stuff and some country stuff as well. By myself and when I jam I like a good clean but also something on the edge of break up and some jazzy tones.
my guitars are a PRS custom 24 and a MIM strat with Dimarzio pickups.
Just wondering if any of you guys could steer me in one direction or the other.
I asked it in the Remedy sub-forum because i'm leaning in this direction \m/

If you're wanting a combo, then decision made. The Remedy is only available in a head configuration. Only the Maz is available with reverb.
Other than that, I like the Remedy best. Personal preference. The Maz is the best seller by far. The Maz is a little more flexible. You cannot go wrong with either amp. Both Good choices here for sure....
PS: welcome to the forum....

Yea i want to move away from the combo amp thing.
If you have the new MV EQ remedy. Will I still need attenuation for lower volumes/bedroom/practicing? or will the MV provide enough?

IMO the Master Volume makes the amp incredibly versatile. It isn't an ultra quiet amp...but you can get some great clean tones at lower volumes. I have used mine for country and blues rock gigs with all my instruments with awesome tones.

Where are you located? There may be a Z bro near you that can let you try their equipment.

These guys are right on about the Remedy and the master volume is a huge improvement plus you don't loose the vibe of the original Remedy. You will get the clean headroom you are looking for as well as some plexi like grind and crunch out of the remedy. It cuts through like a ninja. I had the maz jr the Z28 the remedy is still my favorite amp. I love the ghia too.

You won't need an attenuator if you get the MV on the Remedy - I can play mine at home no sweat, and still get all that glorious Remedy tone. If you got the Maz though you would definitely need an attenuator to play at home - the MV on the Maz isn't really an MV. If it's a head/cab you want and you don't want Reverb, given what you said in the OP, then the Remedy is the amp for you for sure - and trust me, it won't crap out on you when you gig it The only REAL choice is, which colour??

As a Z-noob I learned early on with my Rem that red has the best tone.

I can tell from the picture that that thing has a superior tone. I went with black though. I hear once you go black you never go back.. not sure how true that is

As Pete said, skip the attenuator. I just got the same Avatar set up. You'll love it. The only drawback is, at least on mine, that you have to remove the entire back to convert from open to closed and vice versa. This wasn't clear in the illustration on Avatar's web page. I'm leaning toward keeping it closed. Anyway, not a real issue for me, and it was a great bargain.

"If you got the Maz though you would definitely need an attenuator to play at home - the MV on the Maz isn't really an MV." What does that mean, the MV on the Maz isn't really? Gotta admit I'm not really bonding with my Maz, and that master volume on it is weird... Anyway, I just got a Remedy and will be doing my first gig tomorrow with it. Using it with the Blue which is in the Maz combo cab. Read more: ztalk.proboards.com/thread/58217/remedy#ixzz4fZdPo77f

Excellent choice. Same configuration I have except for the cabinet. Mine is a Traynor that I changed to a Creamback. Lots of versatility in tone and volume. ME
