Silly question.....with the UL Certification of Z amps now, does the Stangray head have an IEC power cord connector instead of the hard-wired power cord?

YES I HAD A spare but , In the mid 90's I had a Fender Concert Amp which had this connection type it was near the output Tubes and as I was playing the heat caused it to actually get warm and sag causing intermittent power loss, when I heard all DRZ amps were going to this I thought about the Nightmares I had, I haven't had not one Bit of problem out all the Z amps I have had with this connector. and yes the computer cable works too

I think I'll have to get a new Stangray in the hopper in case that model gets discontinued at some point.

I wonder how difficult it would be to modify a hard wired power cord Stangray to IEC? Both of my Z-verbs, my Soldano and Mesaboogie all have IEC and I find it makes it much easier to transport for gigs. Granted you have to keep track of the cables, but my Stangray power cord always seems to get in the way during load in/out.
Any thoughts on the cost/difficulty?

I had an old Mesa Boogie Tremoverb head that had a hard-wired cord.... I had it in the shop one day for a bad LDR (long story), while it was in there my amp tech said "hey, want me to swap out your power cable for an IEC jack"? He charged me $10 and said "it was easy". The hardest part would be cutting the chassis for the socket to fit in there.

Thanks for the input Telejas, I appreciate it. I'm wondering if it would be best just to contact the good doctors folks and see how much they would charge, or do you think a good local amp tech could do it? Like you mentioned, other than cutting the chassis it seems like it would be easy. I am very particular about who works on my toys . What did you think of your Tremoverb head? I still have my Tremoverb combo and really wish I had gotten the head instead. The open back with V12s just sounds to thin to me. When I plug it into my Z-Best..........whole new game. I actually ran it into both my Z-best cabs at once and WOW.

For resale value, the Z guys would look better (if you ever do decide to sell it), but it's a rather easy process and any tech should be able to do it, but unless you trust the local tech then the Z guys would be the better bet. Cutting that chassis could be tricky and if they haven't done it before, they could mess it up.
I have a love/hate relationship with Boogies..... I LOVE the distortion A LOT, but honestly could never use it in my last few bands. The cleans are a bit sterile, even on the Tremoverb. I've had 4 Tremoverbs, 2 heads and 2 combos, I just keep wanting to be able to use them.... But it's just not practical for me. Liked my Roadster better, but the cleans were too "Fendery" for me. It also doesn't help that most Boogie combo's are in the 90-110 pound range!

Just to close the loop on this thread......
As per Doc, the Stangray was the last amp to get she IEC treatment and is only available as of now with the IEC detachable power cord.
So the notion that the conversion was done as of 2009 as mentioned earlier in this thread is not correct.
Cheers

A weak link in an otherwise great amplifier.

Personally with combos I don't mind the attached power cord, but with heads, I do prefer the IEC... even though some of my Z-Amp heads are hardwired. Not a big deal.
