The Antidote is definitely stiffer, and stouter, if that makes sense. If I had to pick based on this, I'll stick with the Remedy. In my opinion, the Antidote is NOT stiffer than the Remedy. It is stout! But it's feel is softer, warmer & smoother. That's what I like better about the Antidote. I owned a Remedy....twice! Great amp but a little too strident and stiff for me. Tube rectifier (Antidote) vs solid state rectifier (Remedy) is, I think, the reason for this feel. I love Mike's video's and playing, however, this is not the definitive, end all, exact differences between the two amps. Both great amplifiers from Dr Z, but two different flavors & feels for us. Awesome!

You have the advantage on me as I've never owned or played an Antidote. And we may mean different things by "stiffer". I certainly didn't mean anything to do with rectifier sag, rather that the Antidote just sounds a bit more solid, which may be down to somewhat lower gain.

I think the Antidote has less compression than the Remedy (class A vs class A/B?), even with its tube rectifier. That's probably why folks perceive it as stiffer. Also, I think the Remedy has a more aggressive midrange tone, which is probably the strident character you are talking about markT?

Really enjoying my Antidote at the moment. Suits me better than the Remedy did. I prefer the feel. Both great amps though.

Glad you're liking it! There's always the temptation to buy the "latest and greatest" in any walk of life, and Z amps are no different. It's easy to be "too familiar" with what you've got and think the the new amp is just what you need. I fell into that trap with the Monza, and it cost me some money It's good, though, when you find THE amp you're looking for, so nice one Sam, and the rest of the guys. For me however, it's called a REMEDY

I think both is the answer. Life is short... Ha, maybe for some folks but not for me. I don't find satisfaction in having a ton of "toys", but that's a whole different story. Plus I get all mixed up when there are too many options to choose from (except for craft beer and food). Two guitars one amp, that's enough for me, it makes it easy on my brain.

Two guitars one amp, that's enough for me I hear you mike, I have two amps and 4 of the same guitar (cos I can't get rid of one) and too many pedals. I end up gigging with my bigish board and only really ever use one pedal from it for a boost, never touch the amp settings, but still can't get rid of any other pedals just in case....

Then found myself thinking "what can I trade with *now*? It's like it's not ok to be content!

Two amps (Remedy and Z28) here, and in truth, that's one too many, but I just can't part with either of them!! I have 3 gigging guitars, and I can only handle 2 in my head, so that confuses me Yep, I think I am definitely in your camp on this one Mike, even though I have gone beyond........

I hear Mike I been feeling the same way myself. I finally got all the pedals I am happy with. Got my pedal board finished. I have two amps the Remedy and the ghia. I have to have a grab and go for the small churches and the ghia is perfect. I also have two 1/12 cabs and three Fender Stratocasters and feel like thats too much. Plus I hate lugging around gear. I keep one 1/12 cab at church and one at home. That way all I have to do is grab my Remedy and my guitar and efffects. Sometimes I just plug straight in and thats usually when I get the best tone.

Haven't tried the Antidote, but I love my Rem. I've been on a gear selling mode lately and have sold several really nice pieces that I just haven't used for a while. They deserve a good new home.

It is what works best for the individual. I personally prefer more amps than guitars to achieve more sonics flavors and landscapes. It's all personal preference

Just got an Antidote to compete with the Remedy I have. First impressions follow.
The Antidote is nicely touch sensitive and responsive amp. With the Antidote having the Vintage/Modern switch on front I would guess the Remedy is voiced more Modern than Vintage. Also, it would be a really useful mod to have the Vintage/Modern voicing footswitchable. In the absence of a MV on the Antidote I will likely pick up an Airbrake or Unleash. One other initial impression: the Remedy takes pedals better but I have more knob twiddling and tube swapping to do- I just unpacked it and plugged it in for an hour.
Update: The Antidote, on Vintage, takes pedals equally as well or better than the Remedy. Still left with the feeling that the Vintage/Modern voicing on a footswitch would be an extremely desirable mod on the Antidote.

Bias alert - I own an Antidote. Never played the Remedy. As a former owner of a Route 66, a great amp, I find the Antidote to be a more mainstream sounding amp. The Route 66 has it's own mojo which is good. Never had a bad sounding night, but I was looking for more. I was considering a Remedy, especially with the MV and bypass mods. I had always thought the sound bites and the videos for the Remedy sounded a little thin (not the best descriptor, but... ). Then the Antidote came out. It fit what I was looking for, a Marshall derived front end with the KT66 output of the Route 66 (I know they are not identical). It ticked all the boxes and the sound bites and videos were outstanding. I may not play or sound better, but I believe my amp does. To the owners of the Remedy, play the thing to the limits of your abilities and beyond, cause that's what they were made for. I'll do the same with my Antidote and be thrilled to do so. P.S. It's not so loud, when the brake Lite is on 4!
