After much contemplation, speaker swapping, brake lite, no brake lite...I had to let it go. I've been on the fence about this for a while. I liked the Ray...didn't love it like I love my Maz. Sold it to a non Z owner who fell in love with it. Going to a good home. I'm kinda sad to see it go, but happy it's going to get played.

So you made a Z convert, Brian. Nothing wrong with that.

I sold my Ray and have been Kicking myself in the AZZZ every since. It takes some time to understand just what a thing of Beauty, the sweetness , and roaring lil beast the ray Is. Sorry yours didn't work out for you. Its very different than the Maz that's for sure. Glad to see someone else will enjoy it.

I sold my first Ray in early 2008... I missed it for almost 4.5 years, until I finally got another Ray at the end of 2012. I missed it every day until I worked my back up to another one. I went through some other amazing amps during that time, but glad to be back to a Ray.
The Ray isn't for everyone.....
Funny story, my lead singer hated every Z I've ever had......Not sure why? When I got my Ray, he just rolled his eyes and asked "why another Z"? After 7 months of playing it at most of the shows, I brought my other amp out and played it. He came to me after the gig and said "I never thought I'd say this.... But I missed that Z of yours tonight".

The Ray might be favorite amp I've owned, including some pretty heavy hitters (Two Rock, Victoria, Kendrick anniversary Bassman, Bad Cat, etc. etc. etc.) I dug the Maz 18 too, but the Ray covers all of my sonic ground SO well.

Tell him you hate the microphone he uses.

I just picked up a ray from jcat5503 and I should get it in about a week or so. I've been waiting for this moment for a very long time.
Not sure what to expect since I've never owned a big amp like that before. I've had a ac15, traynot 15 watt amp and a rxes jr that I have now. I had the Rx ES and loved it! But the jr was needed at home.

Would love a Ray, even though I'm not a chicken-pickin' country guy. A Wreck would be fine, too. Or maybe an Antidote. Or, you know, an EZG.

I know some of you will find this hard to believe ..... however the Ray is a Rock-N-Roll Machine and while it has to be encouraged to Be Nasty With a Nice Z Best or any Closed Back 2x12 or 4x12 its Sweet Midrange makes it an Unreal Tone Monster. Yes the Spanky, Snappy Cleans are AMAZING TOO! but for me , I miss the Ray for its Meaner side,

Tell him you hate the microphone he uses. Lol.... He's also the other guitar player in the band. He also played lead guitar for David Allan Coe for 7 years (from about 2001-2007-ish). But, DAC played two Peavey Triple XXX full stacks and my singer played a 300wt Tech 21 modeling amp into two 4x12 cabs. Not judging his tone, just the VOLUME My singer still has the Tech 21, but only running it into a 2x12 now, still loud as heck though.

Yes the Spanky, Snappy Cleans are AMAZING TOO! but for me , I miss the Ray for its Meaner side, I'd have to agree here.... I didn't know how to dial in my first Ray. Too much tone and cut made it really scooped and it HATED dirt pedals. This is why I got rid of it in the first place, because I needed a more "pedal friendly" amp. With my current Ray, I've backed both the tone and cut down to below noon.. I still have a great clean tone, just not as much low end, but it LOVED dirt pedals now. I now consider the Ray one of the most pedal friendly amps around. soundcloud.com/tele_jas/triple-wreck-in-to-dr-z

He says he "wants to like tube amps", but can't bring himself to get one... At least it's not a Line 6 Spider, the Tech 21 sounds halfway decent. Plus he says he can leave it in the trailer all year long, can I do that with my amp? Wasn't sure how to answer that one (or if I wanted to open that can of worms)?

Hey--I am by no means knocking the tech 21. Solid state amps have their pluses. They are in an entirely different league than the good doc's amps though and I just cannot believe he rolled his eyes at your amp. Different strokes I guess.
