Good afternoon. I have been the proud owner of a MAZ 38R head which was acquired in a trade a few months ago. However, I've had issues with my E (fret 7) and D (fret 5) notes played on the A string sounding too boomy and pronounced. A few days ago, I played through a brand new MAZ 38 1x12 combo at a local guitar shop. That amp had none of the issues I mentioned above. Every string seemed to be balanced. Granted, I was not using my main axe. I feel like I may have narrowed down the problem to my choice of cabs. Here they are: My current cab is a G112 Cube Traditional (dimensions are 17" H x 17" W x 15 1/2" D). Link to cab: www.avatarspeakers.com/g112.htmMy previous cab was an Egnater Tourmaster 2x12 (dimensions are 34 " L x 16.25" W x 27.5"H) Link to cab: www.egnateramps.com/EgnaterProducts/Tourmaster/TourmasterCabinets/Tourmaster212x.htmlThe Egnater is an oversized cab and the Avatar Cube is well, a cube. Both cabs are significantly deeper than the Z combo I played through a few days ago. I feel like the depth may be contributing to this "boominess" I've been hearing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What are your settings on the amp? I've found that with my HB's the bass can get boomy pretty quick on the dial. I read somewhere on here that a cool way to dial in that (and other knobs really) is to turn the bass off and play a chord/note and roll the knob up until you hear the frequency fill in. Once it's present you should be good to go... you may have to add a bit here or there but you should be at a good starting point. I know that sounds basic but it took me a very long time to get out of the habbit of just puttin knobs where they "looked right".
Earlier this year I finally scored a Z 1x12 cab and couldn't be happier...

You mentioned not using your main guitar at the shop. Does it need a setup? Sounds more guitar related than amp.

Another Z 1X12 owner here. Great cabinets that offer the option of open or closed back. I run mine open back with a G12H and love it. The cabinets are built solid, look great and you know the reliability you're getting with a product from Dr Z.
