I love that I have been reunited with my Gal' but I have a problem now. When I turn her on, she squeals like a pig and then is as quiet as can be. What's up with the squeal though? Is it something I should worry about? What should I check (tubes, cables.) thank you guys - as always, Bill

My guess from that note would be a microphonic tube, start with a known good tube and try V 1 first, move on until the bad tube is found.
Also may try tapping each pre amp tube with the eraser end of a pencil with the amp on and the volume up a bit, a bad tube will let you know.
other thoughts; Are your turning the amp on while on chanel 2? If so, that high gain hit at start up could be sending the tube over the edge.
Try turning the volume knobs all the way down before turning the amp on also.
Again, random thoughts here.
Good luck Bill and let us know what you find.

Bill.. I had a similar problem with my Ghia..About a month after I got it, after it warmed up, a really high pitch whine would develop. A quick flick of the power switch and it would disappear until it was powered down/up again..I talked with the Doc, replaced the ECC83..BINGO!!.. Hope this is all you need to do...... T..

Thanks for the suggestions guys - It seems as though the tube in position 3 was bad. I changed it and it seems fine so far (knock, knock)
thanks again, Bill
Edit: I am so happy my Gal' is working so well and sounds so good with her MazSr sister. They're both so sultry - and wicked when when I want them to be - LOL!!!!!

Hey Bill, I was betting that you were going to find one of the pre-amp tubes to be the culprit! I have noticed that your equipment list doesn't show what cabinet you are playing through! If you haven't heard your "GAL" cranked through the new Celestion Reissue G12-65 you need to! This speaker is amazing with the GALAXIE! I might get one of the new Z-2X10 cabinets to throw in the mix with my GAL-1X12 combo! I have heard an awful lot of comments from Z-NATICS here about how good DOC's new 2X10 cabinets with the removable back sound! I had one of the earlier versions of the 2X10 cabinet with a Z-28 head and it sounded great! I am going to make a change with my ES-335 and swap the Vintage CLassic HB's with either a set of Sheptone PAF LOW-OUTPUT HB's or a set of Jason Lollars LOW-OUTPUT IMPERIAL HB's! ;D

Right now I am using a stereo Marshall 2x12 (1936 Lead) cabinet. I use it with my MazSr in one jack and the Gal' in the other. I want to get either a ZBest or a 2x10 Z cab but I don't have the coin now. I may, I repeat MAY sell the Maz and get the Z cab because I don't need both heads. Problem is I really love my Maz. I could always buy a new when my finances look better so I may do it. I wish I had coin to afford the new cab and both heads but I don't. I also have my eye on either a MazGT, RxEs, or RxJr. I hope to be able to grab one of them by Christmas
BTW, the Maz and Gal' compliment each other very nicely. Previous to this rig I was running dual MazSr heads through the Marshall and previous to that I was running a MazSr/Route 66 stereo rig through my Marshall. I love Dr. Zs designs. I will always have at least one Dr. Z in my rig no matter what. I prefer the dual Z rig but I really want a new cabinet. Decisions, decisions, .... LOL!!!!

Also, with regard to my Gal acting up on me:
I changed out the bad tube once I found which one it was and the amp is back to normal and sounding better as well. So the tube was not only making the high pitched squeal but it was also degrading my tone. My Gal' is a really great amplifier now that it's back to normal again. I wish I could just be happy with my rig the way it is because it's awesome. If Buddy Whittington liked it. then it must be awesome. I have this sickness that prohibits me from being satisfied - some call it G.A.S. I call it me being an idiot. I know I will regret selling anything. I should just work as hard on my playing as I do buying and selling equipment - ya know??

I'm an idiot too bilbal. I want one of all the Z amps. I just traded a Mazerati Head for a Route 66 head. I'd like to have a Z 4/10 to go with it. Like ya said bilbal I don't have the coin.
