Serial number one of the Anitdote came in yesterday. All I can say is WOW! Z really outdid himself with this one. It nails the big sound of the JTM454 and then some! This is definitely a must have tool in the line up.
Here's my take on it: The Dr Z Antidote takes the classic JTM 45 design and brings it into a modern setting. This is old school KT66 tone at its finest. The cleans are rich and thick with a bell like top end. The lows hit you in the chest and have a bounce that won’t quit. The authority yielded by the Antidote is really what sets it apart from other Z amps like the Remedy and Route 66. The Antidote moves air like only an amp with its power can. The front panel features a Modern/Vintage switch. It’s a perfect blend of blonde Bassman and vintage Marshall tones with the vintage setting engaged. When you flip to the modern setting the dynamics go up ten fold. Turning up the blended volumes brings out the rock. The Antidote also features the footswitchable EQ bypass. This acts as a gain and volume boost when engaged. Great as a solo boost and basically can function as a second channel without the compromises of a 2 channel design. Yes, it can be loud and proud, but the Antidote sounds great at any volume. This is the real deal tone here. Like Dr Z’s Z Wreck is to an AC30 so the Antidote is to the JTM45.
I'm going to get back to rocking...this is why I opened a guitar shop!

Is it just me, or is that an extra large "Z" on that bad boy?
Looks great! Eddie

Dang Brent......why did ya have to write up a catchy review like that!!! I really like this part: " The cleans are rich and thick with a bell like top end. The lows hit you in the chest and have a bounce that won’t quit."
...been trying to avoid this new tone monster!

It really is one of those amps that brings a smile to your face while playing. It has that intangible quality of feeling right under your fingers.

...been trying to avoid this new tone monster! This makes me wonder how the antidote compares with the Route 66 - is this a valid comparison? I would assume the Route 66 isn't quite as loud, but other than that how would the two amp compare?

^ Yeah, I'd like to see a head to head comparison with the Rt. 66. OK I have both amps but haven't done a side by side. But since I designed both let me give my educated spin. The comparison in my mind is very close to the comparision of Tweed Deluxe to a Blackface Deluxe Reverb two models most here have played. Tweed Deluxe/RT 66 : Simple designs . Kind of a one trick ponies with a great sweet spots and heavy Vintage Tones. Both lean toward Electric Blues early Rock tones. Blackface Deluxe/Antidote : Multiple controls allowing for various degree's of Clean, Crunch and Overdrive tones. Able to run at differant degees of volume with wonderful responce, no need to drive to "Sweet Spot". Lot's of adjustments without a bad sound. There are pluses to both amps and both sell, some need the simple direct drive of the Tweed/RT 66, while others like the fuller palate offered by the Blackface /Antidote. Hope this helps. DR.Z
