With the new baby on the way we've done a bit of rearranging. I've moved my humble home studio into our bedroom, for now... It's a bit cramped but I'll manage.

Any way you could swap positions with your guitar/amp area? Speaker in the corner right up against the wall is never going to sound right.

Any way you could swap positions with your guitar/amp area? Speaker in the corner right up against the wall is never going to sound right. Already noticing some issues here with the sound being a bit off. I knew this was going to be an issue but we're running low on space. The wall is a good foot behind the desk. How much space is optimal? I can get almost a foot off the wall to the right as well. Will any amount of sound reinforcement help? Any advice greatly appreciated, thanks Eric. Edit: I'm going to give the spot near the window a spin this weekend.

It's the right wall that is the problem. Puts you in full "corner loading mode" over there.

Cool. A little symmetry goes a long way!

I think the bigger question is how long your wife's going to tolerate the rig in the bedroom! We've got a near 2 year old now, and his room used to be my gear room. When he came, I had to disperse my stuff all around the house. So, desk/recording stuff/amps went in the basement, electrics hang on the walls of our guest bedroom, and the acoustic hangs on the wall in the boy's room (high enough that he won't be able to reach it until he knows what to do with it). Its great for bedtime songs.
Good luck - having a kid is a real eye-opener, that's for sure!

Bought smaller to get into a better neighborhood if that makes sense. She's being very cool about it all. She's always been into my music and let's me have time for it. I've moved my electric drum set in the larger dining room which worked out nicely. I'm absolutely sure things will change when he arrives but we'll manage. I've already dropped the, we need a bigger house on her. After he's a bit older we'll make a move.

Oh yeah. Moved it and all is well. I need to get some sound reinforcement in here, have a bit of a bass trap. Thanks for the advice Eric!

Also, a Bass trap will work almost anywhere you put it. (like under the bed if that was the only place you had)

i have a question. I have a similar set up in a spare bedroom (approx. 12x12) which i'm about to rearrange. would it be better for me to put my speakers and console along a flat wall with a flat wall directly opposite or to put it diagonally in the corner?

Cool. I have a space like this that I should set up like this as well. I think it would go a long way I'm making me more regimented in learning new things.

Symmetry is also really important as far as speaker placement goes.
