Need a 12" Spkr. suggestion that will work for both a 66 & Maz Sr. in a 1/12 Z cab that I use for lower volume gigs. I use Les Pauls most times but occasionally strat & tele. I use pedals when I have to. I want a bit more highs out of the 66 when I use the Pauls & now have a Red Fang in the cab, that I think does that. But not sure it works for the Maz. Vin 30 or G12h not my favorite in a 1/12 & see that Tonkers & Wizards get rave reviews. Any idea's ? Thanks

Prowler, Do you use a ceramic 50watt Silver Bell ? Does it break up early, have enough highs with humbuckers ?
Laroosco, Does/will the Texas Heat have a spikey top end ?
I want to maximize the highend on the 66 w/humbuckers. Thank for your input.

The heats have a great high end. I can easily coax Albert Collins type high end out of my Z Best w/Heats

"Still waiting on a celestion Gold report"
Man, I am bummed, they were suppose to be in by aug 15th and now musictz says end of August. I wonder what is going on @ the factory thats keeping things from happening with this speaker. I'll surley give a report as soon as it gets delivered!

The Silver Bell I use is a 50 watt Ceramic with Medium dope. It works wonderfully with the 66. Remember the 66's wattage rating is conservative so I would stick with the 50 watt version.

Perfect match for the 66 and the MAZ Sr. J

I really want to try a weber but I cannot decide between the 50 w blue alnico or the 50 w silver bell ceramic. I love Jason's sound clips with the ceramic, but then I am hearing the ceramic is way bright sounding .............that scares me off. Hearing that the "blue dog" has some darkness to it scares me off. I have a GOLD on order but am getting tired of waiting and might cancel.
Texas heats, Tone Tubbies..........arrrrgh! Help me make up my mind. I like nice and tight bottom end , sparkle, and chime.........and moderate headroom. 50 watts seems fine for the 1x12.

Hi Brumar, unfortunately for me personaly those two amps call for two different speakers, but i'm sure theres a comprimise availible! The Maz is IMO a really bright leaning amp, and i favor a darker or at least a flatter eq'd speak for that. The Tonker is a LOUD bright speaker! I think id look at the Swampthang as its darker a bit. But it is still a loud high watt speaker. I prefer cleaner speakers and make volume adjustments elsewhere. If you like to drive the peaker and push the amp more, you'll probably want to steer clear of the swamp or tonk, and stick with some of the 50-65 watt choices. That being said, My favorite and IMHO the most versatile 12 out there is the Emi 121 Legend. Tonally it sits bettween the swamp and tonker, has enough bottom, smooth but present midrange, and really nice chimey highs. It is a high powered speak tho, so you may have to adjust for that a bit. I use it in an Earcandy Sovergn 1-12, closed back ported cab, with my 66, and it covers everything, and has enough top for the Rt., and is flat enough in its EQ to not overly accentuate the Maz's top end. A great speaker i think for trying to cover to tonaly different amps!

I vote for the ceramic Tone Tubby, no bother with cone cry and plenty of sweet highs.

Thanks for the responces, Telemanic, you may be right about 2 different spkrs. & I may just do that. I will try the 121, they're cheap enough. I was hopeing to use my old 1/12 z cab for both but may look for another 1/12 cab. I have an outside gig tomorrow & will use the Maz w/ a marshall 2/12 open back w/ vin30 & 12h30. Hopefully I'll confirm that it will be my loud gig cab. Thanks again !

Texas Heat 150 watts, and a low Db rating. It's an efficient yet quiet speaker. Voiced like a Vintage Jensen with more balls in the low mids. Beautiful!!!
You really can't go wrong with most of the speakers mentioned here though. But Dave at Avatar sells the Texas Heats for about $45(+S&H)

Sounds good brumar, yep theres a lot o good speakers mentioned here. Hey ya know i always hesitate to talk up something other than Z on the site, i love all the doc's stuff, but if your looking at another 1-12 on a budget ( like we all are ) Seriously check out earcandycabs.com, Tim over there is amazing, and will custom your cab to your needs. Tone woods, speakers etc. His Soverign 1-12 sounds like at least a 2-12, is not directional, in fact has a cool 3-d kinda sound, super musical, and best of all about $330.00 delivered, W/speaker !! In any case he's a wealth of knowledge as far as getting the right speaker for your needs.

Follow up, First let me say, I Love my Maz Sr & 66 ! 66 & Z1/12 w/ Wizard. Gave me the added highs I was looking for. Maz & old Marshall 800 series 1/12 w/ Celestion G12-65. To me, the 65 is even & balanced through it's range & I use the amp to color it for what I want to hear. For bigger or outside gigs, I have a Marshall 2000 series small 2/12 w/ G12-30 & Vintage 30, that works great w/ both amps. So for "NOW", I'm set. Thanks for the help

Last night I snuck over to the local McDonalds and stole their 4" drive thru speaker. You know, the one you order your food through.
Brought it home and fired it up with my Route 66.
....not so good.
