A guy I know was talking smack on Z amps saying all they were was a high gain vox and that they are not clean sounding or versatile. That's a bunch of malarchy cause the Ray is probably the cleanest you could get as far as clean amps go. I think the Ray is not as versatile as a Maz 18, but with a few pedals the Ray can rock with the best of them. I just hate when people say these things about Z amps cuz IMHO they are one of the best amp companies out there!! The guy that said this likes old vintage fender amps so whatever. What are your thoughts?

Everyone hears something different and people are entitled to their own opinions. As you can tell by my signature I really like Zs but I also have some non Zs that are really great sounding. Stingray is an extremely clean amp but I also have another amp that is just as clean. My OLD Fenders, however, are not as clean as my Zs.

Every one has their own taste... But they should know what they're saying before they spout off about an amp (or anything). Sounds like he's just heard a few clips or some other opinions and is making them his own.
I will say, my lead singer doesn't like any of the Z's I've ever had..... I don't know why? Well, yeah I do... He plays solid state amps. He has a decent tone, but it's quite a bit different then mine.

But like you say, you may as well get he facts straight first instead of broad generalizations! High gain AC30s??....ok, if you heard a Maz GT ot Z-Wreck, but a Stangray is hardly high gain! Personally I'm not a fan of anything silver face or black face Fender (plus I think they are some of the ugliest amps in history!)...but that completely personal taste and I know they are great amps. Just because they are not for me doesn't make them junk. Keith

I like other amps and even own/owned vintage fenders. They have their place and have made lots of good music throughout history. Along with marshall and vox. That said, Z is making history as we speak and I do believe that one day, Z will be in the history books along with the others. I play Z's for several reasons. Obviously they are some of the best sounding, but also because they are built like a tank!
The guy prolly hasn't spent any quality time with a Z, or he'd know different. Everyone has their own taste, preferences, and budget but I know lots of folks that don't play Z's but they highly respect Z amps and the Doc.

Yeah, everyone has their own likes/dislikes about amps, pedals, guitars, e.t.c., but you shouldn't knock something until you try it. I think the old vintage amps are great, but these are new times and I think Z amps can hold its own over any vintage fender anyday. They didn't know as much about amps in the 1960's as they do now. Our technology is waayyy better, so I think some people are just stuck back in that time era and can't get out. LOL
Cheers, Jason

From the opening statement...I'm glad I have my bases covered. A Ray and a Maz 18 are my two amps. Couldn't be happier. 'Nuff said.
