Anyone heard Brad's new album? I've only heard the first 2 singles from it and I'm not too impressed. The latest one, I think is called "Beat the Summer", is awful.

As I understand it, it's not due for full release until April 9th. I will wait to hear the full album before I come to a conclusion. One thing about Brad, no matter the songs, you know there will be some good guitar in it. And some Zs of course.
I will say I like the 2 singles more than some of the other "crap" I here coming out of nashville.

I have found that I prefer just about all of Brad's material that don't make it to the radio.

I've only heard "Southern Comfort Zone". I'm a huge Paisley fan and I like everything by him, but that one just doesn't sit right with me for some reason. It's almost like he's trying too hard to be different, or something. I'll buy the album when it comes out and I'm sure there's some great stuff on there. Keith

That is true for me as well. It also tends to be less produced.

Keith From listening to the first 2 singles released thats the exact impression I get. Trying to be different for the sake of being different. To me its just a cheesy pop sound. On his second single he throws in his trademark guitar solo and it just doesn't seem to fit the song. "Beat This Summer" sounds like he hired Taylor Swift to help him write it.

I just listened to the clip of the second tune and I agree with you completely. I was looking forward to this release, but now....not so sure I'm all for artists expanding their sound and not just spewing out the "same old, same old", but this one has me wondering. Normally I'd just run out and buy the new album without listening. However, the preview of the first two tracks means I'm going to have to preview all of the tracks before I buy it. Keith

I'm streaming the whole album now on iTunes and........well, I'm a big fan of everything Brad, but this one may be he one that breaks the chain!
I'm only about 1/3rd way through, but based on what I'm hearing, I won't be buying the album next week

I'm a bit late to the "Paisley" bandwagon so I'll just continue to focus on the earlier stuff.

I'm a bit late to the "Paisley" bandwagon so I'll just continue to focus on the earlier stuff. I'm a huge fan and love everything right up to his last studio release. Brad always did some poppy stuff, some tongue-in-cheek stuff, etc. you expected it but at the core was a sincerity that made him able to pull it off. The new album is just different. For example, Brad likes to touch on taboo topics. so, one of the topics is domestic violence on the album. So, there's a tune on there about a woman who was a victim in the past so she goes out and learns Kung Foo. So, the song is about her going to a bar where her ex husband is and she mops the floor with him using Kung Foo (well, that's the gist). While this is all going on, Charlie Daniels is doing the play by play of the guy getting his butt kicked in a manner oddly reminiscent of The Devil Went Down To Georgia ! Maybe I'll change my mind and pick up the album, but I doubt it. There are some good tracks on there and as expected all of the solos and fills are killer. It's just that it's hard to suffer through some of the songs to wait for the tasty solos! If you are getting your feet wet with Brad, don't just stick to the old stuff. I like as much of his newer stuff as I do the old. I think 5th Gear and Time Well Wasted are my favourite albums! Im still a huge fan Keith

I agree with Keith, 5th Gear and Time Well Wasted are probably the two albums of his I listen to the most. I like the others also, but those are my favorites by far. Mud On The Tires is not far behind though.

I think this will be the first Paisley cd that I will buy individual songs at itunes instead of buying the whole cd.

Yeah, I read that. He's also on the cover on the new Guitar World. I listened to the album again this morning online. I'm sure people will like it. There is some good stuff on there (Runaway Train is great). However, for me, I want to be able to put an album on and enjoy it in its entirety and there are just too many "Where's the skip button?" moments on this one. Keith

Well, this is the one release I've been looking forward too for a while (there's not much new music coming out that I look forward to buying)!
Maybe I'm being a little too harsh, so, I'm going to give Mr. Paisley he benefit of the doubt and buy the CD tomorrow. He's my favorite artist, so, I m going to keep buying his stuff until I can't.
Maybe I'm just being stubborn, so we'll see.

Mud on the tires and 5th gear are my 2 favorite albums. This latest one is just too out there or to underwhelming. I've only heard his 2 latest radio releases and a third one today, "Accidental Racist". Just not impressed with any of it. I will at some point give the whole album a listen but I won't just run out and buy it like the other releases, if I even bother to buy it all.

The outro solo in With You, Without You is incredible (and that's a ballad!). Well, I picked up the Deluxe Version today. The low points are still the tunes we reference above, but there are some great tunes on there and some neat guitar. The artists out there whom I follow and look forward to new album releases are few and far between. So, I'll keep buying Paisley until I can't! 'Pressing on a Bruise' is a great tune. Hooky, classic Paisley. In the end, I'm glad I sucked it up and bought it! Keith

BTW, IMHO 'Accidental Racist' and 'Beat This Summer' are the two real duds on the album. It's funny how these are some of the first releases! Keith On almost all his albums I found the radio releases the songs I did not like at all. Infact I didn't become a BP fan until the release of 5th Gear. I had heard all his radio songs and judging those was not a BP fan. I then come to actually listen to 5th gear and was blown away by the material that doesn't get air play. I then bought another, then another, etc. I figured that was the key. I like all his stuff except the ones he rights for commercial success. I finally did listen to the new CD completely and I'm afraid to say its pretty weak and I won't buy it. There are some tunes that are ok but seem like weaker rehashes of things he's done in the past. Then there is the pop sounding tunes that are awful. I don't feel too bad about not having some better new BP tunes to listen to. I've got all his past CD's that have a ton of great tracks to listen to. They can't all be strong I guess. I found even the concert I attended was a bit of a disappointment. Just a collection of his radio hits. Then he gets me excited by going in to Throttleneck. Thought finally gonna see some great guitar playing. But alas he only played about 20 seconds of it. Before I heard all his CD's I didn't think he was that great of a guitar player. Most of his radio hits don't really showcase exactly what he can do. You can't compare what he does in "Make a Mistake with me" to "Online". I didn't appreciate how phenomenal he was on guitar till I heard his CD's in entirety.

I'm sure he used a little of everything. I remember seeing some video clips and seeing lots of different amps in the background. IIRC, the Z Wreck, Bruno, Trainwrecks, and even the Maz 8 combo. I'm sure there are lots more. He's been known to use different amps for background fills, accents, and certain parts of each individual song so no one really knows but him and his tech.

I had already pre-ordered the deluxe version and was having some second thoughts after getting to stream the album before it arrived. I will say though, it's starting to grow on me. It's definitely different than anything he's done before, but there is a lot about it that I like.

Sothern Comfort Zone grew on me, especially after hearing the acoustic version on the Deluxe Version. However, 'Beat This Summer'. 'Oustanding In Our Field' and ' Accidental Racist' get the skip button treatment every time There are some catchy hooks on there. Even the 'Karate' tune has some great guitar, etc, but I wish the cheesy Charlie Daniels bit wasn't on there. In the end, there's more good than bad. Keith

Accidental Racist and Beat this Summer might truly be 2 of the worst songs he's done, but the album wasn't THAT bad. The instrumental before Karate is pretty rad

IMO - just as it has been on pretty much every album he's ever done, my favorite tunes usually never see the light of day. Some of his best tunes aren't released as singles but instead take a side seat to the more country pop tunes.
This is probably my least favorite album of his even though there is a lot of good/cool stuff on it.
