I know that the Private Jack is a Greenback "clone" but I was wondering how the two compare. Besides the higher sensitvity and power handling that is. Also would a Private Jack be wiped out by a Cannabis Rex in an open back 2x12 combo? Eminence has the CR listed as "Loudest" and the PJ under "Louder" but the sensitvity rating is only 1 db apart....

I haven't used a CR but I have a PJ and really love it. It does everything a GB can and more IMO. To my ears, it doesn't start crap out when you pound it with heavy distortion or a singing lead and it seems to have more headroom on the cleans. This is probably due in part to it's 50 watt rating. One REALLY important feature is none of that Celestion cone-cry (that droning low note when you pound them) which was really pronounced in my Zbest until I started using PJ's. The GB's a great speaker but that cone cry I was getting just really pissed me off. The PJ is a darker sounding speaker though so I would be cautious using it with a darker sounding amp. I can't wait to try them with my Ghia when it arrives! I know the CR is really good with cleans so it might be a great match with the PJ. I doubt the PJ would be overpowered by the CR. Since you're using an open back combo that PJ won't sound as dark either. I took the back off my Zbest and gave the PJ's a workout a while back when I had my SRZ (darker amp) and man what a tone... kinda wish I hadn't sold her now that I think about it.. Oh well, let me know how it sounds if you give it a try.

Another plus with the PJ is that I noticed it sounded great right out of the box. That broken-in GB "woody" tone was right there. I was pretty impressed...

Johnny Hey man, you know if you ever want to pay a visit to your old SRZ, it's only a short drive away! ;D By the way, to the original question, I don't think a PJ would necessarily get wiped out by a CR. It has a different tone, with more highs and crunch, so that would allow it to get heard in the mix. Also, I don't think the two speakers' overall sensitivity is that much different. IMO, the Eminence published sensitivity ratings are useless, or actually worse than useless. For instance, I just got a pair of their Man O War's to try out, which are listed as 102 dB sensitivity. They're actually less sensitive (to my ear at least) than my Weber AlNiCo Blue Dog 30 watter, which is far from a 102 dB speaker. The Man O's are nice sounding speakers though, as are the PJ's and CR's. Just have to ignore the published sensitivity ratings and try them out.

Hey Tony! Sounds good man. I should have the basement finished soon so you're always welcome to head out this way for a jam too.
Peace!

Thanks Coreybox...I just heard back from Dave at Avatarspeakers.com they only drop ship multilpe speakers directly from Eminence now. They still install in cabs but no more singles from Dave, ugh. He had the best prices plus a great guy.
