I would like to share the most recent developments in the release of the Antidote.
It has become the longest developed new amp I have released, and with those long development times came many twists and turns. I projected releasing a Limited Production 2X12 Bluesbraker Type combo, as seen in the teaser Facebook shot. This Combo was equiped with a PPIMV ( Post Phase Inverter Master Volume ) much to the chagrin of my three artist prototype users. I will state I have never had a model amp that had such a broad exceptance in differant styles of music.
Let me explain, Brad Paisley has had one of the initial Prototype Antidotes, and it will be prominatly used on his new released CD. Brad has always been known to be inavative in his tone and always wants something fresh and new to add to his arsinal of Tone generators. So the Antidote covers some Country Tones .
Next is Austin Guitar ace David Holt, who has used his Antidote prototype trouble free for over a year. David has agreeed to make some Video's and demo's of his use of the Antidote. A great quote from David " The Antidote combines the tones of two of my favorate amps The Fender Blackface Bassman, and the Marshall 50 watt head, it's sound is truely unreal." So the Antidote covers hot Blues/Rock tone with a Texas twist.
Finally the the Antidote has been on a European tour with Buddie the guitarist with " Rocket From The Tombs". It's genuine full bodied tone fits nicely in the early Punk Rock roots of RFTT. They have been in the studio so look for a new release, featuring the Antidote.
I questioned each of my users about there feeling of the amp, and if there was any changes needed, each one said the exact same thing, don't change a thing...... So here I was being Mr Engineer updateing the design to what I thought was better. I found that a head version was the best way to release this amp. Also after compairing Buddies protoype to the new an improved model, I found the PPIMV didn't work as well in a Fixed Bias circuit as i would have liked.
See in a Fixed Bias circuit you need to decouple the DC bias voltage from the dual ganged pot or it will scratch.
So caps are need to be added to de-couple the DC which change time constants and alter the final tone. That amp does sound differant and FEELS differant with PPIMV. As a musician I could not let this be released in it's evolved state. I listened to Buddies amp, and David's Crossfire Video, and said shoot I need to go back it's original configuration.
So I will be releaseing the Orginal version of the Antidote, (you'll need to put on your BIG BOY PANTS to play this one), mid March, with a retail price of $1899.00. It will be in a head form in all three basic Z-Colors.
Now I also tested the Power Scaling curcuit on this amp was very disapointed with it's results. Just like PPIMV, Power Scaling has it's place on other amp models just not the Antidote. No this isn't an amp you'll play in your bedroom in your underpants while your daughter is sleeping in the next room, no no no my friend. This is the biggest most genuine sounding amp I have released to date, you'll need to play it to understand. It's not for everyone but thats OK as it will fit on some of the largest stages and venues.
