I have a 1x12 combo cab that I have attempted to trade for a Z speaker cab. No luck....
Has anybody converted a combo cab to a speaker cab? If so, I would appreciated any suggestions/opinions that you could offer. I was thinking about simply putting a nice piece of wood inside the cab where the front of the chassis would be. Or, would it sound better by not closing up the opening?
Thanks

I am using an empty Z/28 1x12 cab as an ext. Cab. I have not yet filled the front valance but plan to cut some MDF or Cabinet Ply and cover with an off setting Tolex.
I made a long speaker lead that reaches the amp yet stay's attached to the speaker.
I may try a closed back and leave the "port" in the front.

I've seen a few converted combos, both with the opening and also with a new panel to close the opening (I had a red 2x10 that was a combo and converted to an extension cab by DR Z.... It was cool cause it looked more like his 2x12 w/ the panel on top, and a little taller than the standard 2x10... wish I still had it now)...
If I still had the amp to the combo, I'd just keep the opening in case I wanted to go back and forth between the "head" and the combo....
CURT.... I LIKE the IDEA of a closed back and leaving the opening as a kind of port...didn't think about that, if you do it... let us know how that sounds.
