My Z28 came with a Greenback in it...great sound and it didnt seem to matter where you stood in relation to the speaker, it sounded the same everywhere...like it was really dispersing the sound evenly instead of straight out in front. I replaced the GB with a Private Jack in an effort to get more clean headroom...at first I thought the speaker just needed to break in...it sounded rather dark. Now that Ive got a few weeks playing time on it, I realize that it is much more directional than the Greenback. We often play in places where I have to stand no more than an arms length (or less) away from my amp and last night, I took a step forward and tilted my head down and what do ya know, there was the brightness that I'd been missing. Im thinking this speaker might be a good candidate for a beam blocker to see if it will disperse some of that high end out and up instead of just straight out in front. Thoughts?

Cut out some cardboard into a 4" disc and use some light tape to temporarily get the beam blocker effect. I did it at home and could tell a difference. I have not ordered one for myself, I don't feel that I need it. I would put the tape on my pant leg a few times to cover some of the glue, this way none of the residue will stay on your grill cloth.

I just received two for my Z 2 x 10 cab that's on order. I've got one in my Maz sr 1 x 12 combo. I had it in my Evans before that. I like the beam blockers. The sound seems more diffused and comes out in more of a hemisphere than a cone of sound. The beam blockers are hemisperically shaped, as they point in towards the speaker. They don't reflect the sound that hits them or resonate in the same way as a piece of carboard might so there is not a perceptible change in tone. Anything that keeps from spiking the people in front of the amp is a good thing and also helps you hear your amp off axis is another good thang.

I just ordered a set for my Z-Best with 2 Blues and another for my Z 2x10. While I could hear myself fine with my Maz Jr into the 2x10, no one else could hear me on stage. I thought it was some sort of fantasy hallucination. They were telling be to turn up. That 2x10 seems to blast straight forward... I love the sound, but not the dispersion pattern
We'll see if the blockers help. That being said, the Z 2x10 with his speakers is hands down the best 2x10 cab I've used...
