If I was to buy a Maz 38 head\cab config what would be the best speakers to go with in the cab.? Humbucker has an array of choices and I am wanting a Maz 38 NR. I always learn a lot on the Z forum and I am sure someone can clue me in on this question also. Regards

The stock G12H has been perfect for my playing - tele [poorly] and tunes from Cash to The Clash.

To be honest all the choices have their merits, though there's a lot of support here for the Celestion Gold, unfortunately also the most expensive option. I have one in my 1x12 cab, but I also like the 2x10 cab with both the Maz and my Ghia. The Gold is a bit too chimey for my tastes, but that's probably just me.

I have the Maz38 Senior w/reverb. I put a C-Gold in it and have never regretted the swap. It's a wonderful speaker that makes playing the amp a joy.

I've got a Maz 38 Reverb 2x12 combo w/G12H and C-Gold. Both are stellar speakers. I happen to like the CG "better"...but they 2 really compliment each other very well. If you were only playing through a single 12"...Take your pick. Don't think because the C-Gold is 3x the cost that it's going to be 3x better...

Lumco - Have you made any decisions?
I've had the Maz 38NR for a about 4 or 5 years now and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it... I've used a few different cabs with it but a couple weeks ago I scored a used 1x12 Z cab with a V30. I liked the V30 for personal practice but I can't seem to get down with it in a band setting (didn't care for it in other cabs/amps either)... I pulled a Weber 12F150 (50w, light dope) from a little tweed deep deluxe cab and put that in place of the V30... I'm really digging the sound! The Z cab has a much bigger/3D quality compared to the smaller tweed cab and the Weber seems to provide a smoother, "American" sound...
All that said, doesn't seem like that would be an option in a "New" cab @ Humbucker but just some food for thought for down the road.

Depending on what sound you're going for, you might even consider Z 10's. For several years, I ran a Maz 38NR with a Z 2x10 loaded with Z's 10's. I loved that config! Sorta been missing that amp lately, to be honest. To me, those 10's just sat nicely in the mix.

I haven't decided for sure on what to do. No dealer close by to try out different options. Most likely will go with the stock speakers and go from there. 10" speakers are out as I never did bond with them so will be in a 2x12 config. thnks for all the ideas.

I had the 2x12 cab for a while and found that it is a really big sounding cabinet! I never felt like I got the most out of it (unless we were playing outside). Most of the places we were playing at the time were very small, and still are so a 1x12 seems to be a better fit at this point.
Maybe some others can comment to this, but I'd recommend considering the size of venues your playing too. Of course, you could get a bunch of different cabs, haha.
