Does anyone have advice on matching speaker sensitivity? I have a Tonker I’m putting in a closed back 2x12 cabinet and am looking to pair it with either a Private Jack, Governor, or Wizard. The thing is the Private Jack is 1db less sensitive, and the Wizard is 1db more sensitive (any louder than the Tonker… Lordy Lordy…) – is this difference in volume a concern for possible phase problems etc., or some other reason? Also, if anyone’s interested in giving advice as to what kind of speaker would be a good match (inexpensive) with the Tonker for this cabinet – I’m all ears. I like how fat and smooth the Tonker is, especially on lead tones – but like the Vintage 30 better for clean tones and mild overdrive tones - snappier, crispier, a little more present. I use a Les Paul through Mazerati 1x12 combo, with a Z-Vex Super Duper driving the amp. Another idea,,, I was thinking of possibly putting the Vintage 30 in the 2x12 cabinet with the Tonker and even getting something completely new that might have some of both of these qualities for my Mazerati combo. You can hear what kind of stuff I play here: www.blanketeer.net or www.myspace.com/blanketeerband Thanks for anything ya got!!! cooper

Pairing speakers with different sensitivities won't cause any phase problems, but one will probably dominate the other. To complicate things even more, I had a Tonker/Swamp Thang, both rated at the 102 db sensitivity, and the Swamp Thang was a hair louder than the Tonker.
I had a Z-Best paired with the standard G12H/V30 and the G12H dominated, even though they are both 100 db. I also just read in another post that somebody here has a Weber Blue/Silver pair and the Silver is doing "more work". I think those are both rated the same also.
Personally, I don't like mismatched pairs, and find matched pairs give a bigger, more unified sound.

I've tried all kinds of diffferent mismatches in my Zbest - G12H / V30 V30/GB Private Jack/GB V30/PJ Lead 80/PJ
none of these have really seemed to do it for me so finally... I got another PJ today and I'm hoping it works out. The only really good, balanced mismatch I've heard was in a Soldano 4x12 that had lead 80's on the bottom and v30's on the top.

Yeah, Bogner does the same config in their 4x12. I played one in a store briefly with an Bogner Ecstasy head and it sound pretty good from what I remember. I really wasn't focusing on the cab though. It was the first time I had ever tried and Ecstasy and was too busy trying to figure out the controls.
