So, I have posted several times regarding selling off the blackface 66 DR........gone back and forth.............mark my words.......I have decided to keep her. One because the amp is simply a great amp.........needs no comparison to Z's.....a classic and part of my past. Two, because........holy cow! They are going for $2000 to $3000 on ebay. Anyway, I wanna add a new speaker.......the eminence line has gotten great press from GP and many of you........and they are so cheap$..............anyway, I have narrowed it to the Texas Heat or the swamp thing.......but these are only from sound clips.....and reviews...any thoughts?

I just got a new Sewell amp, 15 loud watts derived and enhanced Tweed type thang. Came loaded with a Texas Heat and I REALLY like it. Just to see I tried both the Tx heat and the amp with diff amps/speakers and the Heat is a good 'un IMO, YMMV of course.

I've never heard the Texas Heat, but I do know the Swamp Thang well. Very L-O-U-D and has big, tight low end. If you're looking for more clean headroom, look no further. If you want any cone breakup, this won't do it.

I don't know if it will help, but I made a clip (on the Sounds section) that compares the Texas Heat and a Weber Blue Dog. I used the same amp, pedals, guitar, mic, etc. so you can tell the difference between the two.

Check out the 121 legend, i think it would be perfect in your DR. A lot of other speakers in the eminence line are derivatives of it, just tweaked for more or less this or that. But as in most things ya go back to the starting point ,and it doesnt get any better than that. Like the Telecaster, leo coulda just stopped there, Ha! love my strats tho. Good Luck !!

I think a swamp would do great in a DR , it will break up like any lower watt speakers just in a cleaner way , the low end is killer, BW just got one for his rig after playing mine, that should do it for about anyone here on this forum
