me and Zane and Zane's brother did some experimenting with a 112 last week. did a closed back and I put a Swamp Thang in it . now here's the review. took it to the gig Fri and Sat night, this was a very low volume gig! used my Ghia. it really didn't knock me out. I thought the bass was a little lost. dont get me wrong it sounded fine , just not life changing. well Sunday my next door neighbor left for lunch{85 years old} .and I turned that baby up loud. 1st with the Maz and woo hoooooo. cant wait till my 1st outdoor concert . this baby talks. my ears are still ringing. this will defiantly fill the bill until I can scrape up the money to Buy a new red ZBest . I guess it needed some air moving in that closed box. solid pine cab . you can tap the top and it rings like a bell

I'm loving the Texas Heats in my shiny red ZBest ;D I'd love to hear a Thang one of these days.

How are the highs on the Thang? A bit steely/edgy/gritty/hard. The lower mids sound slightly scooped also. I just compared one extensively with my Tonker and a Weber Blue Dog ceramic. Even though the Weber & Tonker have more chime and top end, they have it in a more appealing, smoother way to my ears. Strange....brighter yet smoother. From what I can remember, the Swamp Thang has treble similar to my old EV. I liked this speaker allot when I first got it, but now I find it a little abrasive with single coils & EL-84s. I just sold mine, but am keeping the Tonker in my Maz.

I really want a closed back 1 x 12 enclosure for the bottom cab under my Ghia 1x12 Combo. Z's website says an enclosed 1x12 is available, bu my local dealer said Z doesn't make a 1x12 closed back- Does anyone know if that's true? Any one know of another 1 x 12 that is the same width (22.5" - 23") as a Z Ghia combo? Also need it in Red and black/cream grill.

I have a Z 1x12 that is 90% closed, it's from '96 or so, 'Peach got it new, sound WAY different than the std. open back sq. Z cab. Maybe he still offers one? If not try here; www.replicabs.com/prince.htmlI had a 2X12 built there a couple years ago to match a '67 Bassman head I was using "Pre Z"

Is there any 'magic' to porting an enclosed cab? Can one just have a solid box? Can you choose any size hole anywhere front ot back to port it? In looking at various cabs, things seem to range form fully enclosed with no ports to a full open back and everyting in between. Its the 'inbetween' that seems tricky. If I want an enclosed cab, is it as simple as 'boarding up' a Z open cab? Thoughts...
