Hi guys, I am thinking about trying one of these speakers in my 66 deluxe reverb. I am leaning towards the alnico versions of both speakers due to my love of that magnet. The weber silver bell definitely intrigues me. I would go for the weber 12F150 jensen replacement, but want to try something different. I have heard good reviews for both but I am not sure which to go for. What do you guys think?

Agree with Bluzsteel. If you go Emi, Swamp Thing would be a great fit for your Deluxe. I got to try a Deluxe a few days ago with a Emi Red, White & Blues, and thought it was killer as well.
If you go Weber, another to consider is the 50 watt 12F150B. It's the C12N-type speaker, but with the Blue Dog British cone. Good mix of USA/UK tones there. I had a standard 12F150 in my '66 Deluxe, and didn't really dig it...Thought it killed too much highs. The 12F150B adds back some chime. Of course, for what I like in BF-style Fenders is the alnico Californias. HUGE, open sound (and not as bright as you might think). Fat bottom as well as clarity out of the Calis.
Can't give you any experience with the Tone Tubby, other than hearing that they are really dark & compressed. Alnico Silver or Blue Weber would be great choices for Deluxe as well.
So many options, so little time...

Thanks guys, I will have to look into the eminence speaker for sure. So many speaker so little time is right JC. I think I will try to get a Weber Califiornia, a Silver bell and one of the eminences and see which I like. Ebay the ones I do not like or keep the ones I do for further tone shaping possiblities. Karma+1 for both of you.

Yeah, plus you can buy them all at Weber. He sells his own stuff, as well as Eminences at discount prices. Just add an Emi to your cart, and you'll see the discount price come up-

JChance. I have a newer Tone Tubby alnico and I really couldn't call it dark and compressed. I think it sounds great. To me it's a very full sounding speaker, not lacking in any frequency band, very neutral and no cone cry. It does seem to have more low end than the Celestion G12H30. I've got the bass almost off but I don't like much bass so it may be just me. If I ever sell my Maz 38 I'm keeping the TT. If a person is concerned about the cost I'd suggest a cheaper speaker. All of the suggestions above would be fine I'm sure, and an upgrade over the stock speaker your amp came with.

The other alnico you could try, if you don't mind a british flavor, would be the eminence red fang. It is really a nice speaker. I have both a celestion blue and a red fang that I have used with my ghia and z 28 in a 112 cab. I'm sure you have used blues, so I will use it as a reference.
Though the blue is brighter (the review in this section says "less complex" top end in the red fang, I would say less meaning very slighly darker), the red fang is more balanced, and slighly more focused in the bottom. Both have a nice alnico compression.
Volume, though it is rated at 103dB SPL, is not noticably different from the blue (100dB). Both are dramatically louder than the old jensens and so on that were originally in the deluxe. I used to have a blackface deluxe with a Jensen.
Blue has the best sparkly cleans, and crunch, but only by a slight margin.
The red fang is best IMO with light breakup (like a deluxe).
Finally, the price is right it is only 190 can at L&M, and you can get it in a couple of days.

Thanks Zdogma, I didn't even know that L&M carried Eminence. Karma+1 for you for that info. I will let you guys know what I end up doing. I will try to bring in a couple of them by the end of the month. Looks like I have a lot of research to do to figure which ones to try first.........

Just going on what a lot of guys around town have told me... Although... A lot of those guys like "bright & twangy", which I'm not a huge fan of...LOL So maybe I'd dig the Tone Tubby too! JC

The original cone Tone Tubbies are reportedly darker. The stock cone now is the H1E. It was developed for Clapton. I've never heard the original TT although that may be the one Santana likes but with all of his distortion it probably helps smooth out his sound.

Does anyone know what amp E.C is using his tone tubbys with and does he have the speakers in a 2x12 or quad box?

I don't know why but on the Cream reunion stuff he just used stock Fender '57 Twins and the stock speakers so you can't judge from those shows. Maybe Fender wanted their stock amp on stage and slipped him a fin.

If the Tone tubby doesn't work out does anyone know if wiring 2X8ohms speakers together in a cab will affect the tone any different than 2x16 ohm speakers?
